At about 9 in the morning, my phone started blowing up with texts.

How are you? - Aaliyah

Are you alright honey? Why are you at Shawn's? - Mrs. Karen

My mom just told me you stayed at Shawn's last night. What's going on? - Aaliyah

Is your head pounding like mine? - Bailey

My phone blowing up had woken me up.

"Ugh," I groaned and buried my face in the pillow.

Wait, what happened last night?

It's all a blur.

Also, why am I in this bed?

I sat up and looked around to see where I was.

Yep, I'm in the apartment.

Oh god. My head hurts.

All of a sudden, Shawn walked into the room.

"Hey there, Skyler." He said.

"Why am I here?" I asked.

"Long story short, you got awfully drunk last night, you texted me that you were drunk, and now you're here." Shawn told me as he crossed his arms.

Why would I text HIM of all people?

God, why?

"Well, I think I'm going to head out soon. Um...thanks I guess." I said, and then got out of the bed.

"Anytime," Shawn replied and began to walk out of the room.

"Frick, my head." I exclaimed as I put my hand on my forehead.

"I put the Advil bottle on the coffee table in the living room." Shawn told me as he stopped in the doorway.

I grabbed my cup, dumped out the water that was in it, refilled it with fresh water, and gulped it down.

I'm making a pledge to never drink as much as I did last night ever again.

I looked at Shawn and he was still standing in the doorway.

"I'm really sorry Skyler," Shawn said.

"I know you are," I replied.

Then, Shawn left without saying anything else.

I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and then walked out into the living room.

Shawn was on the couch playing his guitar.

"Hey, I think I'm going to text Manny or Karen to come pick me up." I told Shawn.

I have to admit, I really miss hearing Shawn play guitar.

"Okay." Shawn replied.

I took some medicine, and then pulled out my phone to text Mrs. Karen.

I think it's polite to call Shawn's parents Mr. and Mrs.

I know I've known them for years, but I want to show them respect by calling them Mr. and Mrs.

I went ahead and texted Mrs. Karen.

As I was texting Mrs. Karen, Shawn was humming a tune I haven't heard before.

"What are you humming?" I asked as I looked up from my phone at him.

"I recently wrote a song with Khalid. I'm just trying to figure out a tune that fits the lyrics." Shawn replied as he was still looking at his guitar.

Oh, he's been working on a new song.

"Sweet." I said.

I can just feel an awkward vibe between Shawn and I.

So, I just stopped talking to Shawn and waited on Mrs. Karen to reply to me.

When she had finally replied, I looked at my phone and read her message.

I'm coming to pick you up right now. I'll be there in 15 minutes.

I wish it was sooner than 15 minutes.

I looked back up at Shawn and watched him continue to play on his guitar.

"Wait, that's perfect!" Shawn said happily after he finished playing what he had just made up, and then played it over and over.

A second later, he opened his journal, and started singing what must've been his song that he wrote with Khalid. He was also playing his guitar while he was singing.

Here I am, stuck on this couch
Scrolling through my notes
Heart was broken, still not growing, nah
Waking up to headlines
Filled with devastation again
My heart is broken
But I keep going
Pain, but I won't let it turn into hate
No, I won't let it change me
Never losing sight of the one I keep inside
Now, I know it
Yeah, I know it
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
It's hard to sleep at night
Knowing what's outside
Feeling hopeless
I need focus
You hit me with words I never heard
Come out your mouth
To be honest
I don't want it, no
Pain, but I won't let it turn into hate
No, I won't let it change me
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
Pain, but I won't let it turn into hate
No, I won't let it change me
Pain, but I won't let it turn into hate
No, I won't let it change me
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away (youth away)
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away
This soul of mine will never break
As long as I wake up today
You can't take my youth away
You can't take my youth away

After he finished singing the song, Shawn looked so happy.

I was so not happy.

Tears were streaming down my face.

I wiped my face and stopped myself from crying.

Shawn's voice, wow.
