I sat there just watching him breathe. Well, I say watching but... I was more confirming. Every time I missed a breath I would panic until I saw him take another. The fear of him dying tearing through me with every passing second. All I saw when I looked at him was this pain. His tears... the memory of when I first met Thomas was on my mind. I would have given anything to be able to make him better. And now... I would do the same.

Seeing him just laying there, I couldn't help but think of my life before. When I was... Vaeril Sanders half of the Drow Twins. I can't lose anyone else. I really can't. I've lost nearly everyone already. I'm the only one left of Elven Royal family and now... If I can't fix this, I've Patton too. The only man who took the time to see the boy behind the shadows.

"What's your name, Kiddo?" Tears pricked at my eyes as the memory ran through my mind. "It's ok. I won't bite. Unless it's a cookie."  I looked up seeing Patton standing there with a smile holding his hand out towards me and I frowned pulling my hood up. I wanted nothing more than to hide my ears. Not that it mattered anyway. My ears weren't the only thing identifying me as a Drow. "You know what... You don't have to tell me." I narrowed my eyes looking back up at the king and frowned.

"He doesn't talk at all." I felt someone nudge me forward and I tensed up. The king got this look of pity and I wanted to scream. I didn't, but I thought it should be known that I wanted to. "Sir... I want to thank you for even offering but Vae..." I flinched and Patton frowned, causing the person behind me to stop.

"You know, Kiddo. Names are just words we chose to go by. Everything is a choice. So how about this. From now on you decide who you are. We'll take it at your pace." I tilted my head slightly and he smiled, knowing I was listening. "My name is Patton, and only if you'd let me... I'd like to watch over you."

"Sir, I don't think..."

"Why?" It was barely a whisper but everyone went silent. Patton dropped to his knees so that I didn't have to look up to see him and he gave me this caring smile.

"You're still a but child, and yet you've been through so much. No one, especial on so young should ever be alone. And everyone deserves a chance at a happy life." I started to shake my head and he just smiled sadly. "Do you disagree?" I nodded and his eyes fell. "Are you angry at the humans for what happened?" I stopped for a second and truly thought about it, causing Patton to frown. "I would even understand if you felt you..."

"Not them..." He narrowed his eyes in confusion and I smiled back at him. "Me..."

"Vae..." I flinched again and Patton shot the dude a death glare. "I'm sorry, Sir but I just don't think this is going to work out." I watched as Patton slowly stood back up and I frowned listening to everything being said. "This kid is troubled. Truly trouble. He's gone so far as to try and renounce his magic." Patton's eyes went wide as I started to shake. "There's just no helping him."

"I'm sorry but I can't accept that." Patton's spoke with a stern voice and I couldn't help but smile. "I cannot... will not accept that this child... That ANY child is without hope. Call me what you will but I refuse to give up on someone regardless of their pain."

"Sir... Please understand. This child is not worth it. He's a dark elf." That made my heart hurt. What happened to Drow? What happened to Vaeril? Am I really not worth anything? Have they truly abandoned me? "Associating with him with only cause you trouble. He, like the rest of family, are cursed." Cursed, huh? I let my gaze fall to the floor and I smiled pathetically. I can't say he's wrong. "Don't waste your time."

"The only time I've wasted is listening to you." I could hear the anger in him and I started to sink into my coat. I wanted to run but where would I go? I don't have anyone anymore. "If you truly believe what you're saying then you'll have no problem with letting me care for the child."

"Sir."

"NO!" I flinched again hearing his voice roar out with the wind. "I don't think I ever actually asked you your opinion. He is of royal blood... A Sanders an as such it fall to me to care for him. A responsibility I will cherish. He's a child NOT a curse. He is a life NOT trouble. And you, sir... are no longer welcome." I felt the tears fall and I ran over slamming into him in a weird awkward hug. I felt him tense up but slowly relax as I looked up to see him smiling down at me.

"Virgil?" I let my hands fall and looked over to see Deceit standing in the doorway. He looked like a mess. Probably a mirror of how I look right now. "H-How... How is he?"

"Breathing." His eyes darkened and I frowned. "There really isn't I can do. Even if I let myself and you know I would... My magic is dark. I can't... I can't help him."

"Virgil..."

"What even happened?" I hadn't meant to cut him off. I was just lost in my own thought. "He was fine. At least I thought he was. I thought he was because you both told me that. You said he was fine."

"Virgil..."

"But he wasn't fine, was he? He was sick. He was sick and he was tired... He wasn't even acting like himself. I knew something was wrong."

"Virgil." I stopped the moment I saw the tears in his eyes. I knew how much Deceit cared for Roman. He acted like a total ass but Deceit's been his guardian since Roman was 1. He watched the man grow up. He cared for him just as much as Patton cared for me. I could see it. "He will be fine." His voice cracked and I frowned. "It was my fault. Ok? I never should have let him go in there."

"Why? Why shouldn't he have?" He tensed up and I narrowed my eyes. I started to get up and he looked away. "Deceit. What is going on?"

"Virgil..."

"Don't Virgil me, Dee. TELL ME!" He just scoffed as I stood in front of him pissed.

"Tell you? Like you're telling him?" I started to shake my head and I threw his arms out frustrated. "WHY AREN'T YOU TELLING HIM?"

"He doesn't need to know." He narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms.

"Seriously? We are trying to save our parents, don't you think the how is a pretty important detail?"

"No. Now drop it." He shook his head and I started to shake feeling the anxiety and anger build up in me. "Deceit, please..."

"I am Roman'guardianan. That job doesn't just end because he's 21. Or because my brother is the one putting him in danger right now. Virgil, he needs to know what you're planning." His voice was getting louder and I could feel my reflexes kicking in. I wanted to run. I hugged myself trying to calm down but it wasn't working. "VIRGIL, YOUR PLANNING A GOD DAMN TRANSF..."

"JUST SHUT UP DECEIT!"
