Another day at school, which means another day of torture, but hopefully that'll all change today. I've let them walk all over me for far too long, it's time to stand up for myself. Because if I don't I'll always be known as the kid who didn't try to stand up for himself. I'll be given the nickname "Kaden the Weak" or "Kaden the Wimp". It may not be one of those, but I can tell that it's not going to be good.
*knock knock*
"Come on in dad."
The door opened.
"How'd you know it was me?"
"I didn't. I just got lucky."
"Oh. Well, I just came to make sure you were up and ready to head off to school. But obviously you'd like some breakfast first, right?"
"Obviously. Smells like someone made French toast."
"That would be me. I also fried up some bacon and sausages, just invade you wanted to make your own breakfast sandwich."
"Thanks dad."
"You're welcome Kaden. I love you son."
"I love you too dad."
My dad and I hugged for thirty seconds, and then made our way to the kitchen.
"Where's Alice?"
"In the shower."
"She should've taken her shower before bed yesterday like I did."
"So she could look like a mad scientist?"
I chuckled.
"Maybe I could go and quickly brush my hair while she's still showering."
"You could ask, but I'd wait just in case."
"I'm going to go quickly ask."
"Ok."
I jogged over to the bathroom door and immediately knocked.
"It's Kaden, is it ok if I come in to brush my hair?"
"Yeah, just give me a sec to unlock the door."

30 seconds later...
"Ok, you can come in."
I opened the door, closed it behind me, and locked it. I walked over to the sink, picked up the water bottle and sprayed my hair until it was soaked. I grabbed my comb and combed my hair back, as if I was going on a romantic date.
"Kaden, before you leave can you hand me my towel? It's on the rack by the hamper."
"Of course."
I walked over to the hamper and grabbed Alice's pink towel. I walked back to the bathtub and handed my sister her towel through the shower curtain.
"Thanks Kaden."
"You're welcome."
"Kaden, can you come here for a second please?"
"Dad's probably getting suspicious right about now, so can you make it quick please?"
"Of course."
I walked over to my sister and she immediately stepped out of the tub and pressed her lips up against mine. I kissed back and we pulled each other deeper into the kiss.
This continued for five whole minutes before she "kicked" me out of the washroom.
I walked back into the kitchen and started to eat my breakfast.
"Why'd it take you so long to brush your hair?"
"Alice and I were having a conversation until she kicked me out."
"Must've been some conversation to keep you in there for five minutes."
"Yep. It was."

3 minutes later...
I have just entered the school and I was immediately confronted by my bullies.
Remember what you told yourself earlier at home Kaden.
"Well, well, well, look at what the cat dragged in. The one and only coward. Kaden Beliveau."
"I really don't appreciate you guys calling me those kinds of names. I know that you're bullies, but when you're treating people like you are with me they're going to end up committing suicide. Thanks to you I was going to end my life."
"You would've done the world a favour and why the hell are we even listening to you."
"Because you know I'm speaking the truth. I know that you're only bullying me because you wish you could do and say these things to your dad."
Each of my bullies punched me one after the other.
"You don't know shit."
"Then what's with the bruises, the scars, and the burns? You should know that if you need someone to talk to, you can talk to me. I can help. I want to help, but I can't until you help me. I want to be friends with you, but until you help me, help you I can't do anything."
"You can't do shit!"
"If you hold in your feelings, the same thing that almost happened to me...is bound to happen to you. So please, give me a chance."
"Get lost! We don't need your pathetic help!"
"You're scared. Your dads threatened you, didn't they?"
"How'd you--"
"Any parent who bullies their own child is going to threaten them, even their own wife. I bet you hear your moms scream every night and you can't get any sleep because you have no idea if she's all right or if she's hurt."
"How could you possibly know all of this? Your dad treats you with love and respect."
"Because I witnessed it when I was four years old. My friend Riley, invited me over after school and was told by his mom to keep me out of sight. Because if his dad caught me there both of them would get it. Obviously he found me. He nearly gave me a concussion, but when I saw what was going on in the living room. I called the cops which was a huge mistake on my end. Riley's dad is still in jail, and later that day Riley's mom died from brain trauma. The next day at school, Riley took his own life. I tried like hell to talk him out of it, he almost stopped but he still pulled the trigger. The look in his eyes was saying "I'm sorry," Riley was one of the best friends you could ask for. Even though he had a tough time at home, he was always smiling at school and was happier than a smiling emoji--"
"How could he have been happy with what was going on at home?"
"Because he had a shit ton of friends. He was friends with the entire school. I don't want that to happen to any of you, despite the fact that you've been bullying me."
"I know you want to help us Kaden, but after all we've done to you...why? Why help us?"
"Because everyone needs a friend and I want to be yours."
"You're all right K. You don't mind if we call you that, do you?"
"No, not at all. As long as you're not calling me that so you make my name sound gangsta......I'm just pulling your legs, I don't care either way."
"I think you deserve a swirly for cracking that kind of joke."
"What's next, dedicating in the urinals and saying a mutant rat did it to the janitor?"
We all shared a good laugh.
"K, we never knew you were this diabolical. We've could've been pulling pranks like that this whole time if we had just stopped to talk to you. Thank you for..."
"Don't mention it. Like I said before, everyone deserves to have a friend. Even rotten bullies like you."
We all chuckled.
"See, we can joke about all of the stuff that's happened to me. Hell, I could say that I could see rainbows when you were flushing the toilet during a swirly."
"Did you?"
"I wish, but I'm afraid I didn't have "Lucky Charms" that morning."

5 hours later...
School was over and my bullies and I were still conversing.
"Hey Kaden? Our dads are out of town this weekend and we were wondering, would you like to come spend the weekend with us?"
"It won't be like the sleepover I had with Riley will it? Because I left out some details. His father was supposed to out of town until Monday, but he came home around six in the evening on Friday, the day our sleepover started. Riley and I were in his room hiding, listening to the screams of his mom. So, I'm only asking for your safety and your moms safety, will your dad be returning home early?"
"Not to our knowledge."
"Ok. I'll have to inform my dad though."
"That's fine. Lead the way."

A couple of minutes later...
I unlocked the front door and everyone stepped inside. I closed the door behind us and walked over to my dad.
"Hey son."
"Hey dad."
"What are your bullies doing here?"
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. You see their dads are gone for the weekend and they've invited me to a sleepover, so I'm just wondering if I can go."
"Of course. Have fun, why don't you ask them if your sister can tag along."
I walked back over to my former bullies and asked them if my sister could join us, they all agreed. So I ran over to her room and knocked on her door.
"Come in."
I opened the door and smiled at my sister.
"What's up Kaden?"
"Not much. Would you like to join me and my friends for a sleepover?"
"Only on one condition."
"And what's that?"
Alice signalled me to come closer, so I did and she whispered something shocking into my ear.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Yes."
"Ok. Let's get going.
