(Imagine you are on the journey with the company, only to be faced with having to reveal your secret to a person you would rather not)

Your back ached from the impact of being thrown against the cell wall.

You sighed while you heard the yells of the dwarves. Their shouts were endless and filled with such distaste towards the elves. The company had been your family for months now but you tired of their ability to complain with such determination.

They knew from the beginning that something about you was unusual. But they hadn't minded. After they got over the fact you were a woman and didn't need protecting, you had earned their respect. If anything, you had earned their friendship.

"Save your voices," you sighed, "your resistance and discomfort will only make them happier." A silence fell at your voice, only hearing the heavy breathing of the dwarves from the other cells as they tried to either calm down or re-catch their breath. Then a soft muttering followed across the cells.

Thorin let out a quiet chuckle and you turned your attention to him, smirking. "Have I amused you, Oakenshield?"

"You've certainly made my job easier." He said. "No need to be a leader when I can just have you silence them."

You let out a soft laugh then your face straightened. "They're angry. Anger and dwarves doesn't mix well."

"You know our kind well." He smiled.

"Unfortunately." You smirked.

Suddenly you heard the rattle of keys and you looked up to find your cell being opened. The red haired elf stepped inside and her eyes flickered to you. "The King wishes to see you. Come along."

Your heart stopped. Why? I don't fear elves. And then the fear lingered. But elves know of deep magic, they can sense it. But you pushed the thought aside and composed yourself, nodding. As you rose Thorin stood in front of you and growled. "You will not lay a hand on her!"

The protests of the other dwarves shot through.

"Leave her be!" Kili yelled.

"Don't you dare elf scum!"

"Keep away from her!"

You rolled your eyes at their shouts. Surely they realised that they wouldn't help you.

You saw the red haired elf tense at Thorin's threatening stance. Noticing, you placed a hand on Thorin's shoulder and smiled. "I will be fine, Thorin. Just let me do as they wish."

He looked at you, wanting to argue, but he seemed to push it aside after fighting himself for a few moments. He stepped aside, head low.

You looked at the red haired elf and gave a small smile. "Take me to him."

She seemed taken a back at your willingness compared to the dwarf. To her you looked human but she had expected your time with the dwarves to increase your stubbornness. She smiled back for a second and then straightened. "Come."

Your heart seemed to pound a little too harshly as you gazed upon the Elven king. His gaze analysed you, soul and presence. Then his head tilted as he seemed to ponder something.

"Human?" He asked, his voice calm and untouched.

You considered the question and realised it may have been as simple as it sounded. "Yes."

He hummed in response. "Why does one such as your self make your presence known in the company of dwarves?" His eyes lingered on yours and you raised your head.
