Why are we afraid of something we can't see? Why do we fear what is beyond human comprehension? Why are monsters hiding in the dark when they wish to see the light? These questions pondered your mind as you stood carelessly in the forbidden room.

«There are no monsters in the Sanctum right?» you muttered hopefully as the door slapped roughly behind you, the smell of magic teasing your nostrils.

You wished you had listened to Stephen, he had warned to not go in few rooms as they were very dangerous, but hey did that stop, Harry Potter, Hermione and Ron to go in the room with the three-head dog? No of course not! Yet, you were starting to worry as the familiar snake of fear of the dark sneakily crawled up your body. The undaunted Y/N had a weakness, the fear of no light, the eerie blackness encompassing you in a bitter embrace had come.

The dark was a tricky world, deprived of sparks, with a never-changing-sight, it was a vision of an infinite obscure horizon.

All wound up, blind from your ability to see, you clenched your teeth and slowly took a step forward. Suddenly, a low growl came from behind you, and you froze.

Hesitantly, you raised your hand up, murmuring a simple light spell and a veil of fireflies bloomed from your hand, illuminating the area for short precious seconds.

A shadow standing in the darkness, facing you. The dark ghost hovered the floor, eyeing carefully, waiting for your next move.

«H..Hello? » you stammered, your fear controlling your voice.

You had heard rumours about supernatural beings, but to come in front of one left you  motionless.  Its glowing eyes staring at you dangerously and at that moment, you realised that perhaps you should have listened to Stephen.

The shadow approached slowly, looming its way to you until you were face to face, inches separated from the creature. Your breath got caught in your throat, crimson eyes locking with yours the spark of curiosity shimmering in its fiery orbs. You faced your fear of the dark in the eyes, your blood ringing in your ears while your heart hammered heavily in your chest. You didn't burst into tears or freaked out like you normally did. No panic attack invaded your body,  but neither did courage. You just let the dark embraced you in its obscure kingdom, falling into it.

As you felt drawn to the shadow, your body unconsciously leaning forward, all your fears succumbing to the silent lullaby of the ghost, the door suddenly burst open, shining a path of light. Immediately, a roar of pain stranded the creature, running to the other side of the room into the safety of the darkness while you stayed hypnotised by the scene in front of you.

A name ringed in your ears, soft hands cupping your face, your eyes feeling heavier and heavier until all you could hear was the desperate scream of your name by your dear sorcerer.

« Y/N! »

" I know this voice," you thought before darkness fell upon you like a brick, your vital energy coming dangerously low.

Safe.

Warm.

Without the loneliness heaving your heart.

With Stephen.

Your eyes fluttered open, pushing away the realm of sleep, you looked at your surroundings, your gaze spotting a familiar figure lying next to you.

" Stephen?" you croaked.

You cleared your throat, disturbed by the sound it had.

" Why is my voice so sore?" you asked out loud.

Stephen rolled up, facing you and answered with darkened eyes.

" Because of your screams."

You looked at him, blinking as you didn't recall yourself screaming. The sorcerer continued.

" I've never heard such a fearful scream, Y/N. You... You scared me."

You put your hand on his gloved ones, squeezing lightly and revealed:

" I'm scared of the dark and when the door closed I couldn't see a thing. I used a lightning spell, but that's when I saw it."

He nodded.

" That's exactly why I told you to stay away from this door. There are things you shouldn't concern yourself about."

You tried to object.

"But..."

He cut you off by scooping you in his arms, cuddling you and conveying a feeling of comfort you didn't realise at first that you needed desperately.

"Now, sleep. Nothing will harm you while I'm here."

You nodded, your face buried in the crook of his neck.

" Leave the lights on for me, please?"

"Of course, love."

When you closed your eyes, your heart hammered faster for a different reason.

A/N: Tadaa. I hope you enjoyed. About the dark ghost creature, I made that up but you can change it if you'd like. Thanks for reading.
