Rain hit the roof of the Curtis household in a calming pattern as thunder rolled in the distance, lightning cracking every so often, lighting up the rooms within.

Y/n sat on the couch, her feet tucked up under her as she looked out the window, watching the leaves blow across the street, the curtains pulled to the side.

"What are you doing up so late, Y/n?" A voice sounded from across the room, startling her. She quickly looked towards the voice, sighing in relief upon seeing it was just Darry.

"Couldn't sleep." She looked back out the window as he walked over to her, sitting down beside her.

"What's on your mind sweetheart?"

"It's nothing." She shook her head, folding her arms across her torso. "Just wasn't tired I guess."

"We both know that isn't what's wrong." Darry grabbed Y/n's hand, running his thumb over the top of it. "Talk to me."

"Darry..."

"Please, just tell me what's wrong? Is it something I did? One of the guys-"

"No, it's nothing you did. It's nothing any of you did." Y/n shook her head quickly, trying to swallow through the lump in her throat.

"Then what is it..."

"Growing up... I never felt like I had anyone...you know that, I've told you." Y/n looked at him, breathing in deeply. "You also know that's how I wanted it. I didn't want to get attached."

"Mhm..."

"But then I met you, and things changed now I'm here... don't get me wrong Darry. I love you, I love your brothers, I love the gang... but..."

"But..."

"But I know that someday... someday all of this will go away..." A tear slipped down her cheek and she wiped it away harshly before another one took its place. "The future will come, we'll either grow old or an accident will happen-"

"Y/n, sweetheart, babydoll," Darry grabbed her other hand, now holding both. "Why are you so worried about that? That isn't going to happen for a very long time-"

"That's what everyone thinks, Darry... then the next day, as their husband comes home from work he's hit by some drunk idiot and that's that..."

"Y/n, I understand you're afraid of that happening, but we don't have to worry about that." Darry leaned close to her. "You and I are going to grow old together and by then, you'll be so sick of me you aren't going to mind when I finally do go..." He chuckled quietly, and a small laugh escaped her lips.

She sniffed, nodding slowly. "Okay... maybe you're right."

"Of course I'm right, I'm always right." Darry grinned slightly, before pecking her lips gently. "Now, what do you say we go get some sleep?"

"Could we stay out here just a little longer? I really like watching the rain..."

"Of course." He held his arms open, allowing her to lay back, and he wrapped them around her tightly. "I love you, don't ever forget that."

"I love you too... for now at least."

Darry rolled his eyes, but smiled nonetheless at her joke, glad to have calmed her down.
