Sodapop - A proposal pt 2

Once we're back to the truck, we head back out to the road.

I look at the time

5:15

Then I look at soda, who was looking at me.

"Got somewhere to be?" He asks laughing

"Oh no" I say laughing "Just a date with Two bit"

"He looks at the road

"I'm kidding" I laugh "And now you're mad"

"No no I'm not mad" He says, his voice going slightly higher

"Liar" I say "You know Two-bit is just a friend, right?"

"Yea" He says "I know, it's just you and him have always had like a flirtatious relationship, even before we were together and it just...." He trails off

"Hey" I look at him "Two bit flirts with everyone, and trust me, if I left you for anyone it'd be Darry or Ponyboy"

He looks at me

"Sorry, sorry, I'm joking again."

We stay quiet for a couple minutes

"So where are we headed?" I ask

"Remember two summers ago, after Sandy left and you took me to that Lake and we spent all afternoon and most the night dancing and talking, trying to cheer me up?"

"Yea?" I say slowly

"Well, that's where were going."

I smile

After a while we arrive and get out.
He spreads a blanket out on the ground, Then he grabs a picnic basket from the back of the truck.

We sit down.

He unpacks the basket.

"Chicken Alfredo and garlic bread, with a Caesar salad"

"My favorite" I say laughing

We eat and talk about silly things like what crazy things our brothers did, or how my sister sassed off to Dally, and about how my other sister has a date with Two-bit this weekend.

When we finished I noticed the sun was setting.

I got up and walked over to the edge of the lake looking at the sky, and water, taking it all in.

Soda walks up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist

"Y'know, that sunset is almost as pretty as you"

"Oh stop it" I say laughing

He moves away

"I'm serious"

"Now come on-" I turn around, only to see Soda down on one knee, holding a small box.

I gasp, my hands fly to my face, covering my mouth.

"Y/N, I love you, I've loved you for a long time. Longer then I realized. I loved you since before I told you when I was six, I loved you, I thought I loved someone else, but over a year ago I realized I love you, and only you. Would you do me the honor of making me the happiest man and becoming my wife?

"Yes, Yes, Yes!" I exclaim

He stands up and grabs me by the waist, spinning me.

He puts me down, then kisses me.
When we break apart he takes my hand and puts the ring on.

"God I love you" He says

"I love you too"

"How about we go tell the gang?" He asks
