Ayanokouji POV
It was the end of the second island exam, my classmates were ecstatic.
I mean... why wouldn't they be, after all our class received a heap of class points thanks to the efforts of koenji.
I went to railing overlooking the endless horizon of the ocean, staring at the clear blue sky. Boundless as my the blue stretched across what my eyes could behold.
With my hands on the rails I recounted my experience on the island and what had occurred on the last few days. I delved deeper and deeper into my thoughts until a notification from my phone broke me out of it.
I reached into my pockets and took out my phone to see that I received a text message.
[please come to the deck of the ship at 8 pm]
A message appeared on my phone from an unexpected, expected person. I hadn't thought that she would make contact this early. Frankly given her demeanour, I expected a couple of days would pass before she decided to do this.
At first when I heard the beep I thought that it was just chabashira sensei contacting me to blackmail me again.
Frankly if it was then I would find it much more arduous for me the man it already has been, when I am supposed to relax...
Chabashira sensei had all the rights to requisition me after I asked for her help, but the message didn't come from her.
I decided to reply to my messenger.
[I am already here, I will be waiting.] Ayanokouji.
After a few minutes of waiting I heard footsteps coming up from behind me.
I turned around to be faced with Ichinose Honami. The leader of the new class C, a person widely known as the most popular student in our year, maybe the whole year.
We made eye contact with eye with eachother, her pink fluorescent hair fluttering in wind with the sun shining upon her, her figure looked ethereal. That despite the attire she had, her beauty hadn't diminished one bit, rather the surroundings enhanced it.
Taking a deep breath she prepared herself for what she was about to say.
I bet most boys in this school would give anything in the world just to be in my position
"A-ayanokouji kun p-please be my boyfriend".
Her eyes were filled with hope...
Her mouth slightly agape and her hair fluttering in the wind.
i closed my eyes
I already made up my mind...
Ichinose who was a girl that was always cheerful, one who can took the anger of others on their behalf, a woman who was kind to a fault ready to sacrifice herself to save her classmates.
Anybody would be lucky to have her, however she's not strong enough...
She couldn't stand by my side, although Tsukishiro was out of the picture, others were ready in line to replace him.
If they to learn about us having a relationship... they would use her to get me expelled and in the process destroy her.
"I can't reciprocate your feelings, that is my answer."
Opening my eyes I let my darkness out hoping to scare her...
Her eyes were brimming with tears.
She dropped one of her arm while the other grabbed it, trying to stop herself from trembling as she adopted a dark expression.
I took this chance to turn around, no longer needing to see her face.
A girl ran past me...
Her pink hair fluttering in the wind as the tears fell from her eyes.
I delved back into my thoughts reminiscing about a couple of key words said to me throughout my life.
*Flashback*
"You will hurt everyone near you whether if it's your intentions or not"
"Y-you aa-are a demon"
"You are the master-piece"
"Return..."
*Flashback end*
I wonder... what could've happened if I wasn't born in those 4 white walls. Maybe I would've accepted her.
No...
It was only because of the abilities I garnered from "That place" that I ended up reaching where I am right now.
I turned away from her and let my eyes wander to the sea. Though serene and calm, I could feel the dark perceptions hidden inside the deep breaches of the ocean.
A dark metaphor for me...
The ocean glistening as the small waves rocked the boat ever so gently...
I at one point toyed with the idea of jumping off the boat and swimming off to somewhere far away, like Icarus searching for freedom.
I don't even know where I am in this world...
Looking back that idea was ridiculous.
*Timeskip*
It was now 5.30.
It has been a day since that incident, I woke up from my slumber and as I stretched my back, the earlier fatigue went away immediately.
I got up and took a shower, then got dressed and went for a meal in the dining hall.
Since it was still early, very few people were here.
Grabbing a simple breakfast consisting of eggs and bacon I took a seat, as I was about to take my first bite someone tapped my back.
Turning around I saw Amikura Mako from class C her face had a smile that didn't reach her eyes, she emanated pure anger in contrast to the expression on her face. She must know about what happened yesterday.
*Slap*
She slapped with with force, leaving a red mark on my face.
"HOW DARE YOU HURT HONAMI!"
She exclaimed that towards me, her tone was filled to the brim with fury.
Touching the left side face of my face as I felt the warmth emanating from the place she slapped me, the stinging effect lingered as felt a slight tingle of pain residing long after the initial attack.
I scanned the area around me and it seemed like the residents inside the dining hall were now looking at us.
When I looked behind me, nearly half of class C was hiding behind a wall.
Placing my fork down, I decided to reply to her with a question.
"Is she okay?"
"NOW YES BUT DO YOU KNOW THE CONDITION SHE WAS IN YESTERDAY?!"
She shouted at me.
"How do you know it was me"
I nonchalantly replied.
I honestly doubted ichinose would blab about what happened between us. Since it was just... a matter between us.
"It's all over the school form"
She responded to me with an exasperated tone.
My eyes widen slightly at the revelation, did someone video what happened?
No...
No one should've known other than me and ichinose.
It was most likely a hidden camera but I'm sure I didn't see any...
Breaking my train of thought mako grabbed my collar, her eyes glaring straight at my soul.
"You better apologize to her now"
She glowered at me.
If I was an ordinary boy I would've started cowering or even tear up, but I didn't show any signs of doing that.
I held onto her arm removing it from my collar, matching her glare as we were locked in.
I then spoke in a strong tone, one that conveyed the message that needed to get into her mind.
"It's none of your business what happens between us so don't poke your nose into it"
I let go of her hand and broke away from our eye contact, leaving a shaking Mako to her own devices.
She stood there as I returned to my meal, not needing an eye at the back of my head I could tell she fell backwards shivering with fear and with the help of her classmates they went away.
I couldn't finish my meal as it left an unsavoury taste in my mouth.
I got up from my seat as the rest of the people inside the hall looked at me.
Returning my plate, I went back to my room and grabbed the book I brought with me.
Leaving my room to venture to a secluded area I found an area where I could relax, I sat at a bench far away from any populated area and started reading.
The ocean breeze would blow on my face, which I didn't mind as it felt refreshing.
However as I was reading, I noticed students passing by would stare at me.
'It seems like this place isn't as secluded as I thought'
There was a constant buzzing that came from my phone.
Notification after notifications would buzz on my phone, I simply ignored them as I was only focused on reading my book.
Completely ignoring my surroundings, even ichinoses homeroom teacher passed by and upon seeing me tried to initiate a conversation still I ignored.
Eventually losing interest she left me alone.
I was near the end of the book...
I flipped over the last page, breathing a sigh as I stretched my arms. I looked to the side to see the cause someone unexpected.
"Hello ayanokoji-kun"
She greeted me with a smile.
"Hello ichinose"
I replied to her.
She was sitting beside me, who knows how long she was there, my closest estimate would be an hour, watching me as I read through my book.
"You know ichinose"
I began.
"Hmm"
She tilted her head to the side with a bright smile on her face.
"I wondered who could've leaked the video there couldn't be any security camera i'm sure of that and only you and i knew of the location of our meeting"
I continued, My tone coming off as inquisitive.
"Sooo what are you saying ki-yo-ta-ka - kun"
She replied to me playfully.
"You knew that I would've rejected you so you hid a camera and recorded the event then you upload the video online using a fake account afterward you use the pressure put on me by our classmates to get together to me"
I expounded my thoughts on the issue that has been plaguing my mind.
Looking into her eyes, behind her cheerful facade I could see a little darkness.
"I wonder why you would think it was me"
She turned to me and scanned my face.
She then continued.
"There is nothing that suggests that I did it."
"Firstly The video didn't have any movement meaning that it wasn't held by a human hand most likely prompt against something secondly only you and I know the location and timing and lastly"
I made a move and took a hold of her chin and turned her to face me.
"I seen you cry before so I could tell that the tears you shed was fake"
Releasing her chin i paused for effect.
"Of course all this is meer speculation I have no real evidence"
Letting out a self-deprecating laugh she teared up.
"You know ayanokoji the first time we met the love advice you gave me made my opinion of you improve the second time you save me by connecting me with ibuki to get me enough points to save me from dating nagumo I thought you were the most dependable person I know then the third you stopped me from falling into depression you listened to me it was then I fell in love with you you are like a shining knight in armour saving me every time I was in danger how could any girl in my position not fall for you"
Leaning on my shoulder she asked me once again.
"Will you be my boyfriend"
If I say no she would likely fall into depression but ichinose has a whole class to help pick herself up and move on and become stronger.
I know that for sure, however if I was to say yes she would be targeted by both her peers by dating someone like me and she will be used to expel me.
Therefore my answer wouldn't change.
No matter the pressure...
No matter how much she sweet talks me...
No matter if I become hated...
I gave her the same reply.
"I can't return your feelings"
With that I stood up from my seat and walked away.
This time I had a heavy feeling in my chest...
I continued walking leaving Ichinose seated, until I heard her voice behind me.
"I WON'T GIVE UP AYANOKOJI I WILL MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH ME!"
Not now Ichinose Honami...
Not now...
