Meet Again

Deaf

One weekend, when Grace was about 3 months old, Rory and Logan took the kids to Stars Hollow.

They walked into Luke's diner. Logan was holding Grace in her car seat and Rory was holding Nicky's hand.

"Grandpa!" Nicky let go of Rory's hand and ran to Luke

"Hey!" Luke smiled and picked Nicky up "what do you want?"

"String cheese!"

"You got it" Luke put Nicky down on a stool and brought him a string cheese

"I didn't know you sell string cheese" Kirk said "I love string cheese"

"I don't" Luke said

"He has string cheese" Kirk gestured to Nicky

"He's 3 years old. Are you 3 years old?"

"No..."

"That's right"

"I wonder what it's like" Lane said

"What?" Rory asked

"Being deaf"

"How did you get there? We were talking about music"

"She'll never hear music"

"She will actually" Rory said "we're getting her cochlear implants"

"What?"

Rory explained the implants.

"That's so cool!" Lane said

"Yeah. We can't do it until she's 8 months old though"

"Wait, so why are you learning sign language?"

"For starters, she's deaf. The implants won't change that. Everyone we've spoken to said that implants or not, as a deaf person she should know sign. Secondly, we're getting the implants because we want her to have as much opportunity as possible, but ultimately the decision is hers, wether she wants to use the implants when she's older"

"So you're gonna pay for what I can only imagine is a really expensive piece of medical equipment, just for her to potentially not use it?"

"Yup. 2 of them. Plus the surgery to implant them"

When Grace was 4 months old Rory and Logan went back to work. At some point Grace ended up in Logan's office. Rory was walking past Logan's office and happened to catch a glimpse of his holding Grace, through the window. She opened the door and stood in the doorway

"Logan?"

"Ace..."

"Why are you holding a baby?"

"Because I love her" Logan said "oh, come here. look at this"

Rory walked around to the other side of Logan's desk so she could see his computer. On Logan's computer was a brain scan that Grace had done a few weeks before.

"Oh, that's so creepy! Why do you have this?"

"I asked them to send it"

"Why?"

"I was curious" Logan chuckled

Just then Joanne knocked on the door

"Yeah?" Logan said

"Hi" Joanne walked in "am I interrupting something?"

"Not at all" Rory said I'm gonna take her back to daycare" she took Grace from Logan and started to leave
