"Logan!" Rory glanced between Logan and Alice
"I'm just gonna..." Alice didn't finish her sentence but walked away
"I'm surprised to see you here, Ace- Rory" Logan corrected himself. It was no longer appropriate for him to call her 'Ace'
"Yeah, uh... same here" Rory stuttered a little "what are you doing here?"
"Here at the bar? Or here in LA?"
"LA" Rory clarified
"I'm here for the debate" Logan told her "HPG is covering it and my dad needed me here to run things"
"You're working for your dad?" Rory asked. She was a little surprised that Logan would go back to work for Mitchum.
"Yeah" Logan rubbed the back of his neck, nervously "he had some health issues a little while back and needed me to step in while he's recovering" Logan explained "what about you? California is a long way from Stars hollow"
"I'm covering the debate" Rory said
"I see...who are you working for?" Logan asked. He had been following Rory's work so he knew that she was working for Hugo but he didn't want her to know that.
"Hugo Grey...I'm writing for his online magazine"
"That's great" Logan said and smiled softly at her. He'd been secretly hoping to run into her. "Hey, so um...do you wanna maybe get some coffee or something?"
"Logan..."
"No hidden agenda. Just coffee" Logan assured her
"I mean...I guess coffee would be ok" Rory agreed after thinking about it for a moment
"Great! Tomorrow?"
"Sure"
"I'll call you" Logan said and walked away
Rory sighed and took a sip of her drink.
"So...?" Alice asked eagerly
"We're having coffee tomorrow" Rory told them
"Oh, that's great!" Madison said
"Is it?" Rory asked, not sure if it was actually a good thing
"Isn't it?" Madison asked as she sat down next to Rory
"I don't know"
The next day Rory was sitting at the desk in her and Alice's motel room doing research to prepare for the debate when her phone rang. She answered it without looking at who it was and put the phone to her ear
"Gilmore" Rory said, still focused on her work
"It's me" Logan said, snapping Rory out of focus
"Logan...hi!" Rory said. That got Alice's attention and she came over and sat next to Rory to try and hear
"So I was thinking that if you didn't change your mind about the coffee you'd be free now"
"Now?"
"Yeah, now"
"Um...I guess that's ok" Rory said. She was busy but it wasn't anything that couldn't wait an hour or two
"Good, because I'm outside your room"
"What?" Rory stood up and peaked through the curtain to see Logan standing there with 2 cups of coffee
"I thought we could drink and walk" Logan said
"Sure" Rory said "I'll be right out" and with that she hung up
"Wow, he's cute" Alice commented
"Yes he is" Rory agreed as she put her shoes on
A few moments later Rory wasn't walking out of the motel
"Here" Logan held out a cup of coffee from a cafe down the street
"Thanks" Rory said, taking it
They walked for a little bit, telling each other about what they'd been doing. It was awkward in the beginning but very quickly they got used to being around the other and it was nice.
Logan noticed that Rory was shivering "cold?" He asked
"A little" Rory admitted
Logan took his jacket, which he'd been holding, and wrapped it around her shoulders
"Thanks" Rory said, shyly
About an hour later Rory walked back into her motel room. Alice and Madison turned to look at her
"Hi?" Rory said, confused
"How'd it go?" Alice asked eagerly
"It went well" Madison said
"You say that based on...?" Rory asked
"You're wearing his jacket" Madison grinned
Rory suddenly remembered that Logan had given her his jacket. Then she started to worry about how to get it back to him, but before she could go too far into her own thoughts Alice cleared her throat.
"Rory?" Alice asked
"What? Oh...sorry" Rory stuttered
"Care to explain?" Madison asked
"I was cold, he wasn't wearing it" Rory said. It's not that she thought there was more to it than that, but she knew that her friends thought there was and she didn't really wanna talk about it.
"He still loves you" Madison said
"He does not" Rory rolled her eyes
Madison gasped "you still love him, too!" She shouted while pointing a finger at Rory
"No, I don't" Rory insisted. If she was being honest, she didn't really know if she still loved him or not "everything that happened between us was a really long time ago. It's in the past"
"You suck at lying" Alice said
"Can we drop this, now?" Rory pleaded
"No"

The day of the debate rolled around and Rory found herself standing against a wall, taking notes
"Fancy seeing you here" Logan said, having seemingly appeared out of nowhere
"Logan, um...hi" Rory stuttered awkwardly. She didn't know why but he was making her nervous
"You get anything good?" Logan asked
"Nothing I haven't heard already"
"I wanna take you out" Logan said bluntly "if you'll let me"
"Um...what?"
"You, me, diner, tomorrow night" Logan said "what do you say?"
"Uh..." Rory said. She didn't know if he meant it as a date or if it was just dinner but she couldn't get what Madison said out of her head "sure"
"Perfect" Logan smiled "I'll pick you up at 7"
