Chapter 264:

3rd Person POV:

We see Meredith and Amelia walking out of the elevator talking about Alex.

Amelia: so, he moved there, and he's not coming back to say goodbye?
Meredith: I don't want to talk about it.
Amelia: how's Jo?
Meredith: she's staying with Link for a few days. Other than that, she doesn't want to talk about it.
Amelia: oof. This is massive. This is a sea change. How are you?
Meredith: I don't really want to talk about it.
Amelia: and what about Lilah? I haven't heard from her. Have you?
Meredith: she really doesn't want to talk about it.

Meanwhile, Jackson and Dylan were meeting Lilah at the coffee cart outside.

Dylan: so Karev isn't coming back?
Jackson: nope.
Dylan: how's Lilah holding up?
Jackson: she's sad, and angry all the time. She's broken things. She cries herself to sleep. She keeps re-reading her letter from Alex and she just... cries.
Dylan: so... I should tread lightly, huh?
Jackson: yeah. That's your safest option.
Dylan: got it. Beware of the beast.
Jackson: bro, don't call my wife a beast.
Dylan: right. Sorry man.
Jackson: it's fine.

My POV:

I was getting my coffee when I see Dylan's hand.

Dylan: it's on me.
Delilah: I'm fine Dylan.
Dylan: I insist Elle Bell.

Elle Bell. That set me off.

Delilah: I CAN PAY FOR MY OWN DAMN COFFEE!

I grab my coffee then I walk away.

-later-

I run down to the ER and throw on a trauma gown.

Jo: why don't you text her, see if she wants to talk?
Link: about what? The baby that might be Owen's or the relationship she just ended? Or the weather? I'll pass. If she wants to talk to me, she can find me. I'm done chasing her.

I roll my eyes as we walk out to the ambulance bay.

Delilah: I get that your lives suck, but can we focus on the patient, PLEASE?! If I hear another word of how much your life sucks, I'll put you both on scut for two months!
Link: I'm an Attending.
Delilah: head of trauma, plastics and neuro.
Link: I'm the head of Ortho.
Delilah: I'm part owner of this hospital.

Link goes silent as I approach the rig.

Delilah: what we got?
Paramedic: Brad Spencer, 22. Found unresponsive with burn on three extremities. GCS of 6T. We got him back after multiple rounds of CPR. He jumped onto a train track and got electrocuted.
Brad's girlfriend: he didn't jump, he fell. We were kissing. We were saying goodbye, and we thought that the train was still behind us. Then he turned around too fast, and he just fell.
Jo: oh my god! Link!

Jo whispers something in Link's ear while I check his pupils.

Delilah: let's go! Trauma one!
Link: go, go, go!

We run into trauma one and start assessing while I page Amy since Koracick is busy with some VIP patient. I don't care if it makes Link uncomfortable.

Link: third degree burns on this arm.

Just then, Amy walks in.

Amy: head trauma?
Link: I paged Koracick.
Amy: and he's busy, plus Lilah paged me. What happened?
Delilah: Brad fell on his guitar, which fell on the train tracks.
Link: he was making out with his girlfriend.
Delilah: I don't have a pulse on either wrist, and this arm is cold and tight.
Simms: this one too.
Jo: right leg's okay, but I'm not getting anything in the left foot.
L&D: compartment syndrome.
Delilah: scalpels and sterile gloves, NOW! Simms, you ever done a fasciotomy?
Simms: does a cadaver count?
Delilah: you and Jo take the arms. Link and I will take the leg.
