you could hear the guys arguing as you knocked on the apartment, waiting for someone to answer it. when ross opened the door, he gave you a flirty type of smile as you did a thin line smile. your fingers awkwardly played with the ribbon on your shirt as you let out a sigh.

"can i talk to chandler?" you asked, chandler perking up at the sound of his name. ross nodded, watching as he walked over to see you at the doorway. you avoided his stares, still nervously playing with the ribbon on your shirt.

"can we talk in private for a second?" you muttered, avoiding his desperate stares to try and get your attention back to him and how it used to be. you two used to sneak around like this for a while until you both came clean.

he closed the door behind him, waiting for you to say something.

"this is so hard for me," you told him. "i mean, i don't even want to look at you. you broke my heart, chandler," you reminded him as he felt himself tearing up at your words. "and the thing i said about joey, i mean, i didn't really mean for it to happen, but it did."

chandler sighed, trying to get you to look at him, but you refused.

"you haven't let me move on," chandler said. "you keep hanging out around me and my friends,  even though you told me that you're heartbroken."

you kept nervously playing with the ribbon.

chandler reached up, grabbing the thin piece of silk in his fingers as he began to undo it as you cleared your throat.

"chandler, it's over," you said softly. "and i'm sorry i keep hanging out with your friends, but they're the only ones that i know that understand this. and i don't want to hurt you anymore," you told him softly.

you removed his fingers from the ribbon as you walked back downstairs.

"she is such a sweetheart," monica said, coming up the stairs from where she probably just ran into you. chandler looked over at her with a face full of jealousy and sadness. she furrowed her brows, asking him what was wrong.

"______, she said she doesn't want to hurt me," he said.

"what do you mean? you hurt her," monica said as chandler nodded.

"i know, but," he began. "i don't know if that was her way of telling me goodbye when i really don't want her to go."

monica pulled him into a hug.

"everything will be okay," she said.

when you walked down to the lobby of the building, you ran into monica who was coming home from a night out. she saw you, giving you a warm smile.

"_______!" she said as you looked over at her.

"hey, mon," you said softly. "you look great. chandler doesn't deserve you," you told her.

"i wasn't with chandler," she said, laughing a little.

"oh, right, i was," you told her softly. "but either way, you look great, mon. even if it's just for someone who doesn't really know what they're getting themselves into."

you walked outside afterwards, hearing monica calling you a sweetheart as you sighed, leaning back against the building as you looked up towards the buildings in front of you. you were trying to keep your composure, but you wanted one person right now to be able to talk with.
