chapter 22
———

Third Person POV
"Emma, pick up the pace!" Isaac spoke in a strained whisper as they hid behind a wall.

"I know..." Emma wrapped her arm around Jane's arm. "You guys just walk too fast in stealth for me to completely keep up."

Zane put his hand down and Lucas walked out of the line to push the school's secret exit door open. Everyone walked out of the school and managed to not get noticed at the same time.

"Man, half days are always the worst days to come here" Zane sighed.

"But at least we gave Mr. Lockhart and Mr. Takashi a notice before leaving" Emma said.

"So, what made you decide to come with us?" Lucas asked.

"I realized that I haven't gotten as much time to myself since school started" Emma answered. "Since I'm already with you guys, I might as well have a bit of fun."

"See? You're getting it now" Zane encouraged.

"So, where are we going?" Isaac asked.

"Costume shopping, boys" Jane answered. "Since you didn't object to going to the party earlier, we're going to buy the costumes now."

"So, where should we go to get it?" Emma asked. "Party City?"

"Nah. Those costumes...aren't working for me anymore" Isaac answered.

"Can't we just go to Brookville?" Sofia asked. "I heard stuff is half off today so there might be a blow out."

"Yeah, that's where we're going" Jane agreed.

"Can't we go somewhere other than a mall?" Nathan asked.

"Why?" Sofia asked.

"We go there all the time as it is" Nathan answered. "Can't you girls think of some other place to go?"

"We go to Brookville because not only is it the most decent mall in the state, it has a variety of stores with products that are cheaper than the original stores out of state" Jane explained.

"But don't most malls sell out on the stuff you really want?" Zane asked. "Plus, all types of people can just waltz in there and start problems so that's a disadvantage."

"Well yes, but do you think waiting for what you want to get makes any difference?" Sofia asked.

"...Touché" Nathan shrugged.

"But, a mall?" Lucas asked.

"What other problem do you have now?" Jane asked.

"Girls go places for only a few things and then end up adding stuff to their cart once they see something else" Lucas explained. "It gets annoying after a while."

"That doesn't happen with all girls, you know?" Sofia said.

"No no, he has a point there" Jane agreed. "I do tend to procrastinate when it comes to shopping and then end up with more things than I was expecting. It's shameful, really."
