Romeo POV

I haven't seen or talked to Wendy since Christmas Eve. Yukino and Mirajane gave birth, but Mirajane's baby died. Wendy had to take a break from working at the hospital. I tried to talk to and visit her, but she wouldn't allow any visitors. Today was Valentine's Day, so I visited Wendy to see if she could go out.

"Hi, can I see Dr. Wendy Marvell?" I asked the receptionist.

"Do you have an appointment with her?"

"No, I just need to talk to her."

I saw Wendy walking up the big stairs.

"Nevermind. Wendy!" I call out.

She turned around.

"Oh. Hey, Romeo."

"It's been a while since we've seen each other."

"Yeah."

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah."

"Do you want to go on a date? Since it's Valentine's Day."

"Sorry, I can't. I have to work."

"But all you've been doing is work."

"Welcome to medicine. I have to go now." She left.

I'll bring the date here. I returned to the hospital with a picnic basket of food and drinks. I asked Dr. DC for Wendy. I set the date in the cafeteria and waited for her to come. I waited for hours until she finally came.

"Hey, Wendy!"

"Romeo? I thought you left."

"I came back to bring the date here."

"I can't eat right now. I'm busy."

"I asked Dr. DC, and she said you can take a break."

"Romeo, I can't have any distractions. I have to focus on work."

"So I'm a distraction?"

"I- I need a break."

"Great, I have food for you."

"No. A break from us."

"A break or a breakup?"

"I don't know. I need time for myself."

"What happened, Wendy? Ever since Christmas, you haven't been the same."

"I was the doctor who delivered Mirajane's baby. I caused more trouble for her. I wasn't the same because I saw Yukino bleeding out at the stairs, and Mirajane's baby died. So when I tell you I need time, I need time."

"Wow. When I was going to ask you to move in with me that day."

"I can't do this anymore, Romeo."

"Let me help you."

"No, I can't let you do that."

"Why not?"

"I just can't."

"You don't have to do this alone."

"YES! YES, I CAN! ALL MY LIFE, I'VE HAD SOMEONE. I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ALONE. SURGERY WAS THE ONLY THING THAT MADE ME FEEL I COULD DO SOMETHING. MY WHOLE LIFE, SOMEONE WAS THERE FOR ME. Now, please, respectfully, leave."

"I'll make it easier for you. It seems you need to be alone. We're over."

"Wait- no. I only need time. I can't lose you."
