I felt myself slowly waking up as light shined into the window. My eyelids slowly opened and I yawned. Then I realized, that was the best nights sleep I've had in weeks.
When I went to move, I felt something tighten around me. I froze and glanced over, realizing Gai was holding me in his arms. Now I was definitely awake.
My face became completely flustered. What do I do?
I slowly turned around and was now facing his chest. He shifted a bit at my movements but seemed at peace a second later. I sighed in relief, not wanting to wake him up. I glanced up at his peaceful, sleeping face and lightly chuckle. I reached up and gently ran a hand through his hair.
"This isn't what I thought I'd see this morning."
I jumped up in surprise which caused Gai to wake up as well. I looked over panicked, my eyes red and then I huffed when I saw my brother.
"Don't you know how to knock Kakashi!" I hissed annoyed at him.
"Sorry. Didn't want to ruin the moment," he replied smugly.
"It's not what it looks like!" I argued, my face completely red.
"Hey. Now your face matches your eyes," Kakashi teased.
"Grrrrr," I grumbled.
"Oh. Morning my rival! Got time for a competition!" Gai spoke as he sat up, now completely awake.
I glared over at him annoyed and Gai flinched a bit at my gaze.
"Oh hey. Your eyes are completely red now," Gai commented and got up in my face curiously.
I panicked as his face was so close to mine, staring curiously at my eyes. I could feel heat rising in my face again and I backed up, falling off the bed. Kakashi laughed in amusement and I huffed.
"Are you alright Kira!?" Gai questioned as he stood up.
"Yeah, yeah," I responded and blinked a few times, turning off my Kekkei Genkai.
"Your eyes are green again. Wait! Did you unlock some sort of Kekkei Genkai?!" Gai asked excitedly.
I nodded.
"Yeah. I call it Blood Vision. I now can sense anyone's heartbeats from a few feet away and when I activate my eyes, I can sense the blood flow in others bodies," I explained. "I haven't trained it too much or attempted any type use for tactical reasons. This power is a bit much. I accidently caused Kotetsu harm when I returned....."
"I believe you can tame this power Kira," Gai declared confidently. "If you want, we can even train together. I trust you."
"......Okay..." I replied, knowing it would probably be best to have him as my partner.
If I lose control, he would be able to stop me hopefully. Unless I stop his blood flow in rage. But I believe that even rageful me wouldn't dare do that to Gai.
"Kira. I need to talk to Gai. You should go wake Naruto and make breakfast," Kakashi stated.
I glanced between them and then nodded, walking off to Naruto's room. I carefully opened the door before going inside. I then sat down on the edge of his bed, smiling in amusement at his splayed out sleeping position. I lightly ran my hand through his hair, causing him to stir.
"Naruto. Time to wake up," I spoke softly. "Do you want eggs and bacon for breakfast?"
Food seemed to catch his attention and he sat up, rubbing his eyes. He nodded his head and I smiled, kissing the top of his head before heading out to the kitchen.
I began to make enough food for four of us, since Kakashi and Gai were over. I finished cooking and began to divide the portions onto plates.
"Breakfast is ready!" I called out to everyone.
Naruto raced out immediately. He ran over, hugging my side before stealing a plate and sitting down at the table. I smiled in amusement and went to sit down as well. Eventually the two men walked out of my room. I glanced over and then saw Kakashi making a beeline for the door.
"I thought that since you're here, you could have breakfast with us," I suggested as I stood up.
"Sorry I can't," Kakashi responded. "My team and I have a mission, so Gai will be in charge of watching over you for awhile."
Gai gave a thumbs up and Naruto glanced at him a bit weirded out.
"I'll see you out then," I said and walked with him to the door.
Once at the door, Kakashi pulled me in an embrace and I hugged him back.
"Yamato gave me a report of what all happened last night," he murmured sadly and my body stiffened. "If Gai hadn't showed up he would've stepped in. Are you feeling okay right now?"
I nodded my head.
"I'm feeling better. Gai helped me realize some things..." I responded. "I'm sorry....My actions were....I wasn't thinking clearly."
"It's okay. It happens to the best of us. I'm just glad you're here," Kakashi replied and set his chin on the top of my head. "Don't be afraid to talk to me. I don't know what I would do if I lost my sister."
I wasn't going to cry, but Kakashi was making it really difficult right now.
"I'll be more open now..." I told him honestly.
We pulled away from each other and waved goodbye as he headed out of the apartment. I walked back to the kitchen and I stared in disappointment when I saw a mess of food all over the table. I looked at Gai and Naruto who seemed very guilty. Naruto immediately pointed at Daiko, who was asleep on the floor and I narrowed my eyes. I looked at Gai and he became really nervous.
"What happened," I questioned as I put my hands on my hips.
"Well uh..." Gai spoke.
"Intense eyebrow guy made the mess and tried to steal your food," Naruto blamed.
"No! I was trying to stop you from eating the rest of the food after you finished yours!" Gai declared.
"Liar!" Naruto replied.
"Enough!" I yelled, my eyes flashing red and they immediately shut their mouths. "You both will clean this up, now."
"Yes sis..."
"Yes Kira."
I stood to the side as I watched them clean up the breakfast table, making sure Naruto wouldn't slack off. I was bit sad I didn't get to finish my breakfast. I looked through the pantry and fridge, realizing we didn't have a lot left.
"I need to the grocery store," I announced. "Naruto. You're grounded so no leaving the apartment for a week."
"What?! No fair...." he whined. "You're not even my mom!"
Those words stung a bit, my gaze saddening a bit. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before I spoke again.
"I'll be leaving now. You coming Gai?" I asked as I began to walk to the door.
"Uh, yeah," Gai replied awkwardly.
I put on my sandals and walked out the door. Once outside my apartment, a few tears began to trickle from eyes.
"Kira!" Gai spoke surprised.
"Am I being a bad guardian?" I questioned sadly. "I know I haven't been the best recently and before I had been on missions quite a lot, leaving him alone. I just........"
I couldn't think of the right words and sighed, staring down at the ground. Gai set a hand on my shoulder and gave me the nice guy pose.
"You're doing a great job," he responded. "Sometimes kids need a little tough love."
I nodded and then smiled at him, wiping my eyes.
"You're right. Let's go then," I replied and began to head off to the market.
We walked to the market and I began to wander around, picking out a few items. Gai insisted on carrying them for me, which I thought was unnecessary but I didn't want to argue.
"Well this is a sight for sore eyes!"
I looked over and spotted Genma and Ebisu walking over. I waved, giving them a small smile once they approached.
"Hi guys," I greeted. "It's been some time."
"Yeah. Where you been hiding at?" Genma questioned. "Village has been quite boring without you around."
"I've been at home. I need some time away from my shinobi duties and reflect," I responded.
"Are you going to be back to shinobi work anytime soon?" Ebisu asked curiously as he pushed up his glasses.
"Uh. I'm not sure," I replied, pondering the thought.
"I think you need more time on leave before you put yourself out there again," Gai commented suddenly and I looked over surprised.
"Huh. That's a surprise coming from you Gai," Genma teased.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Gai questioned.
"You're always sad whenever you don't get to go on a mission with Kira for a long while. It's pretty funny to watch," Ebisu pointed out, chuckling a bit.
Gai's face became beet red and I looked over curiously.
"I don't know what you guys are talking about," he replied, trying to sound confident.
"If you miss me, you know you can just stop by," I stated with a smile. "Don't worry. I like going on missions with you too, but you're right. I probably shouldn't go out anytime soon."
Gai rubbed the back of his neck, giving a bashful smile at my response.
"Why are you taking leave if I may ask," Ebisu asked curiously.
"Oh. I've been mourning mostly and I unlocked a Kekkei Genkai of sorts. So I'll need to train so I will have control of it at all times," I responded honestly.
"Mourning....Oh. I'm sorry for your loss," Ebisu responded in realization. "Nari was a great shinobi."
I nodded.
"Yeah. As much as I miss him and everyone else, they wouldn't want me to be sad. They'd want me to live and be happy," I spoke honestly and smiled brightly. "That's why I'm going to try and do better now."
"Glad to hear that," Genma replied with a slight smirk. "So are you two on a date or something?"
"No! I'm just helping her with her groceries and Kakashi asked me to watch over her!" Gai immediately explained, flustered.
"Wouldn't a date have to involve leisurement," I commented. "I'm currently getting groceries for myself and Naruto, and Gai is technically working."
"I mean, shopping can be leisurely," Ebisu stated.
"Have you even been on dates?" I questioned.
"I uhh..." Ebisu replied, now stuck.
Genma chuckled in amusement.
"He wishes," Genma replied with a smirk. "We'll leave you two be. It was good to see you Kira."
"Likewise!" I replied happily and waved goodbye.
Gai watched the exchange, mostly staring at me. I glanced over at him and smiled. His eyes seemed to brighten a bit and he smiled as well in return.
"I like when you're happy. I hated seeing you so sad," Gai commented.
I blushed a bit and rubbed my elbow.
"Yeah...I just, needed to heal is all. So many of us have lost so many people and I just never took it well since it was hard to be accepted in the first place," I stated and then, surprisingly, I smiled. "But, I'll just treasure their memories now. I may get sad, but that's okay since it just shows how much they meant to me."
Gai's eyes widened and then after a minute, his gaze softened. He smiled and nodded.
"You're right. Now let's head back," Gai responded.
I nodded and followed after him.
"I can carry the groceries you know!"
"But you're not in your usual shape. Plus, these are nothing."
"Are you saying I'm not strong?"
"No. You're one of the strongest people I know. Trust me."
I blushed and narrowed my eyes.
"Then let me carry the bags!"
"Only if you can catch me!" Gai declared and raced off.
"No fair!" I exclaimed and then chased after him.
