"Brother!" I called as I raced over and jumped onto his back chuckling.
"Hi Kira," Kakashi replied in usual monotone voice and I hopped off his back.
"What about us?" Obito called stubbornly as he stood beside Rin.
"Sorry," I responded with a smile and ran over, hugging Obito and then Rin.
I then pulled away and looked over at Minato and Kushina as they walked over to meet us.
"How long will you guys be gone for?" I asked as we stood at the Konoha gate, Kushina and seeing Team 7 off.
"Who knows," Kakashi commented.
"It'll probably be about a week depending on what trouble we deal with," Rin said. "But I'm sure it'll go well since Kakashi is our Captain."
"So you guys are splitting off from Minato...." I spoke worriedly.
"Yeah. He's going to front lines," Obito stated as he lazily held his arms behind his head.
"Just be careful," I said as I gave Rin another hug.
"We will," Rin replied softly as she pulled away.
"Obito. Make sure Kakashi doesn't do anything stupid," I teased with a closed eye smile.
"Kira..." Kakashi spoke annoyed as he glared at me.
"Sure thing. Though he's always doing stupid things," Obito said with a smirk which only cause Kakashi to now turn his glare to him.
I chuckled and then they set off. I waved as their figures slowly got farther and farther away. I stood there sad in a way, since I couldn't help or even just go on any mission.
"Cheer up, Kira. They'll return safe no matter what," Kushina commented as she lightly pat my head.
I nodded and we began to head back home. When I laid down in bed for the night I couldn't help but get this feeling something was wrong. Daiko must have sensed my unease and climbed into the bed with me. I gratefully accepted his comfort and held him close.
"Kira! Breakfast is ready!"
I awoke at the sound of my name being called and yawned, rubbing my eyes tiredly. I pat Daiko on the head before getting up and moving to the kitchen.
"Goodmorning," Kushina greeted.
"Morning," I replied sleepily before taking a seat.
We had gotten into a rhythm of her waking me with food so I wouldn't sleep the day away when I could go help at the hospital a bit. When I recieved my breakfast I began to eat, but the feeling of unease still stayed with me.
I slightly jumped in my seat when I heard a knock at the door.
"Could you get that please?" Kushina called from the kitchen.
"Mhm," I hummed in reply and got up, heading to the door.
I opened it and before I could even greet the person, Daiko pounced on them.
"Daiko!" I scolded but the chuckled at the scene.
Gai had been caught off guard by the wolf's sudden attack and had fallen to the ground.
"Good to see you too Daiko," Gai said with a smile as he pet the white furred wolf.
"Goodmorning Gai," I finally greeted. "How'd you know I was here?"
"I uh....May have seen you walk here yesterday..." Gai replied and became a bit flustered. "I was eating with my team when I saw you walk by and got curious since Kakashi said you weren't at home anymore."
"That right. I'm technically grounded. No missions and no crazy training," I stated with a huff.
"What?! Does that mean we can't spar together," Gai cried out in surprise.
"Yeah for now," I replied. "It'll probably cool off once the war is over."
"Awwww," Gai said defeated but then had a moment of realization. "I actually have something to give you!"
"Please tell me it isn't more flowers," I asked on instinctually.
"It isn't. You said you liked flowers though," Gai stated confused.
"I do, but just like a few. Not a whole bushel," I responded with a huff.
"Yeah...sorry. I must have overdid it then," Gai said with a chuckle. "Anyway, here you go!"
He held out a grey colored leaf headband to me and my eyes widened.
"You found it," I spoke, remembering it had been torn away during the Mist kidnapping.
"Actually, Daiko gave it me and I've held on to it," Gai explained. "I meant to return it to you sooner, but you kinda disappeared after you got out of the hospital."
"Yeah. Sorry," I said as I took the headband from him and tied it on my head.
"Kira! You should get to the hospital soon," Kushina called. "Have Gai escort you!"
"Escort!?" I blurted out and my face grew red.
"You heard me. I trust him to walk you there," Kushina replied as she now stood a few feet away.
"I'll do my best ma'am!" Gai announced.
I rolled my eyes as I tried to hide my blushing. I quickly pulled on my sandals and went to leave.
"I'll be home around sunset," I called.
"Alright. Have someone walk with you back!" Kushina responded.
I closed the door and then groaned in annoyance as we began to walk to the hospital.
"I'm not a baby! I don't need an escort for everywhere I go," I whined. "I can't do anything anymore without being watched."
"They're just being cautious. I wouldn't want you to get taken again..." Gai murmured and I looked at him surprised.
"Oh....Sorry. I should take others feelings into consideration," I replied feeling a bit bad.
"You just miss being able to train and everything is all. Once everything gets better we'll be able to do that and maybe this time you'll go all out!" Gai announced passionately.
"If I go all out I could probably kill you," I muttered as I looked away.
"Huh?" Gai said, not having heard what I said.
"Nothing," I replied quickly.
"Hmmmmm," he grumbled at that response but didn't push it.
I soon arrived at the hospital and waved goodbye to Gai as I headed inside. I helped a few of the doctors and did some research before I was called to see Tsunade. When I entered her office, I saw another girl there with dark hair.
"Good. You've both arrived," Tsunade spoke as she closed a book. "Kira. I'd like you to meet Shizune."
I looked at the girl and nodded in greeting. She seemed a bit older than me.
"I'm going to be leaving Konoha soon," Tsunade announced which shocked both of us.
"What?!"
"You heard me," Tsunade said. "But I'll be taking you both with me. You'll be trained further in your abilities."
"Did....the third hokage approve of this?" I asked worriedly, knowing I probably shouldn't be going anywhere.
"Yes. If Team sevens mission is successful and shows a turning in our favor for this war, then we'll be leaving soon after," she stated. "Do you both agree to come with?"
"Of course!" Shizune responded.
"Yeah!" I replied.
"Alright. You're both dismissed," she responded and we exited her office.
The thought of leaving Konoha felt exhilarating, but it also made me feel a sort of sadness. I'd be leaving my friends, but I would be getting stronger and more skilled.
Soon sunset had arrived and I needed to head home. I didn't really see anyone I knew and began to leave when a figure jumped in front of me.
"Might Gai reporting for duty!" He announced with a charming smile and thumbs up.
I chuckled in amusement at the action.
"I'm guessing you're walking me home then," I commented and he nodded.
"Kushina had told you you needed to walk home with someone, so I decided I would just come back here at sunset," he responded.
"That's very sweet," I stated and leaned up kissing his cheek before beginning to leave. "Let's go!"
Gai blushed and then nodded as he followed after me.
A week passed and Kushina and I stood by the gate waiting patiently for Team seven to return. We stood there for awhile and soon saw a group walking this way.
As they got closer I counted three. Minato, Rin, and Kakashi. Kakashi didn't look so good, but my main worry was.....Where was Obito?
As they got closer, Rin made eye contact with me and shook her head sadly before looking at the ground.
I knew then....that another one of my friends had died because of this war. Tears began to fill my vision, my body shaking as I tried to hold myself together, gripping my heart as if I was in pain. I felt an arm wrap around me and my eyes widened when I felt an embrace.
"I'm sorry Kira," Kushina spoke softly as she held my close to her.
I gripped onto her tightly as I let my emotions go.
Freaking depressed now
I'm going with the storyline of Naruto, but I might change things up when it gets later in the series.
That still doesn't help the fact that the Obito stuff doesn't freaking crush my heart. Ack!
Anyway. Besides the sadness, hope you're liking the book.
