How did you discover Wattpad?

I discovered Wattpad through Inkpop, which was another writing site. When it was closing down everyone was looking for a place to go, and Wattpad was that place.

How long have you had Wattpad, and how often do you use it?

I’ve had it for 3 years now, which seems like such a long time! I’ve been off for a while since I had final year 12 exams, but now that I’ve got a 3 month holiday between the end of high school and uni I’ve been on pretty regularly.

Is there a meaning behind your username?

Not really!

Why did you start writing? What age did you discover your love for it?

I think I started writing because it was the most accessible way to tell stories. I’m not particularly interested in words; I’m invested in stories. I used to make really elaborate stories with my toys (they were always disaster epics for some reason, like the film 2012, which potentially says something about my 8 year old mind frame) and eventually I decided I wanted to record the stories so I started writing them down.

Who are you favourite authors? What are your favourite books? (Books on Wattpad count too!) What is your favourite genre?

My favourite authors are Bret Easton Ellis (of American Psycho fame) and Chuck Palahniuk (of Fight Club fame). Those are some of my favourite books, as well as Less Than Zero, Ready Player One Watchmen (which is actually a graphic novel) and the Song of Ice and Fire series (i.e. Game of Thrones). I would have to say that my favourite genre is speculative fiction, although I read more literary fiction. On Wattpad I really admire SumireHime’s writing.

Do you want a career in writing?

I’m studying Law, so no. But I’m sure if the chance came up to get my work published I’d jump at it. So, I guess I’m not planning for one but who knows.

Who supports you the most in your writing?

Nobody, to be honest. My parents know that I write but I don’t talk to them about it ever, and my friends definitely don’t know (or, at least, they don’t mention that they know...) It’s something I want to keep to myself for now (see: for the past 10 years) because I don’t want people to hassle me about it. I guess that goes to show how unprepared I would be for a career in writing!

____________

Choose one of your books:

What is your book called? What genre is it? What is it about (2/3 lines)?

My book is called Killing (And Other Games) (it’s way less morbid then it sounds) and it’s a paranormal-thriller. It’s about a girl who discovers a sub-culture of paranormal creatures and gets involved in their crime, basically.

What inspired you to write it?

I read a whole lot of crappy paranormal-romance on Wattpad and I was like ‘I can totally write something just as cliché as this.’ It was a personal dare to see how cliché I could write. (I’ve never written anything remotely like it before or since; most of my writing is lit fiction or speculative fiction). But then I actually started to enjoy it and I made the ending less cliché then I intended...

How often do you update? When was it last updated?

I finished it about a year ago, and I added a prologue maybe 6 months ago.

How long are your chapters? Do you think short or long chapters are better?

Most chapters are 3 Wattpad pages. I think on Wattpad you’ve got to economize because people have access to anything else if they’re bored and they’ll happily move along. In real novels, longer chapters are often more satisfying.

Are you proud of how well your book has done? Are you happy with the amount of reads it has?

It has about 60,000 reads which is good (I guess?), but I wasn’t really looking for a certain amount of reads. I’m more pleased with the amount of people who have messaged me and said they loved it and want a sequel!

Do you have any advice for new authors?

I feel like I’m not qualified to give advice...Write what you want, don’t listen to other people, and have fun!

I loved this author's style and how descriptive they were while writing. Their storylines are also very well thought out and I loved their books. I thoroughly recommend that you check them out!
