The winter night bleed into his skin as Hajime made his way through the cemetery. A pen rested on his sleeve as he found the closest gravestone. He could hear it creak as he sat down on top of the thick stone and rolled up his sleeve, the cold air hitting it rapidly. Anyone with a right mind would cover his sleeve immediately, but now, he had something to do. The pen wasn't for show, so it seemed.

The pen cap clicked and fell onto the snow as Hajime brandished his pen like a knife. It came soaring down towards his arm, nearly puncturing the skin as the ink traveled into his arm." Is it cold where you are?" The boy had engraved into his own arm, soon finding it becoming pale and barely visible. Beneath that text, words began to form. Red marker began to seep from underneath his skin." I'm very cold," it said, staying there for a long duration. Hajime couldn't help but let out a sigh. His soulmate always kept it so short, he'd doubt he could ever find out where they were.

Like many other days, he contemplated denouncing this person as his soulmate. To go on with his life pretending his soulmate had passed. And like those many other days, he couldn't. It felt wrong. He took a long sigh, pressing the pen into his skin once more." Why do you never write to me first?" Hajime removed the pen, watching the words vanish. There was a feeling of hope in his chest, for perhaps his soulmate was an idol that was too busy or they were being monitored or something. It would've made him feel more complete, knowing it wasn't his fault that he scarcely saw his soulmate's words.

          "No ink,"

The familiar red spread across his wrist. Almost immediately, Hajime brightened. It was simply a lack of materials. It didn't matter to him that his soulmate responded immediately every time he wrote, meaning he did have access to ink." I'm in the Celestial Graveyard, where are you?" He wrote, feeling his skin becoming sore from the force behind the pen. There was a pause, and then," Me too." It was almost unbelievable that those words appeared on his arm. Hajime shot up from the gravestone, the dirt shifting beneath his feet. Excitement filled his veins as he looked around for another person, but there was no one. No footprints, no noise.

"Help help helo haip adondaned chnrch,"

The red marker came in even thicker, and as if on cue, new words bled through Hajime's skin. They weren't ones of reassurance, however. He gently wiped his hand over the words, mouth agape before snapping his head up. His feet moved on their own, which allowed him to duck and weave through the low hanging branches towards the church. He shakily took out his pen and wrote," I'm coming, are you in dfbger?" Hajime wrote frantically, the pen cutting through skin and red began to trickle down his arm." im gong to die,"

The door was in front of him now. He slammed his fist against the handle, hoping to throw the doors open. Hajime stared in disbelief as something, or someone was blocking the door." HEY! OPEN UP!" He yelled desperately. Perhaps it was selfish, but he didn't want his soulmate to die without ever seeing their face or knowing them. To know that no one would ever write back felt so isolating, so scary." OPEN THIS DOOR GOD DAMN IT!" He cried, his fist banging against the wood.

"i cau hear you. kee talkng"

The red marker had gotten sloppier, messier. Thicker. It was then Hajime realized that this red bore a striking resemblance to the blood dripping down his arm. His soulmate had been writing back to Hajime with his own blood. He didn't know whether to feel flattered or disturbed, but he knew he couldn't help. Whatever was happening behind there, all he could do was try and talk to his soulmate for possibly the last time." I'm... uh, I'm Hajime Hinata, high schooler! I'm enrolled in Hope's Peak and... I-" Hajime tried to talk normally for their sake, but his voice broke. He dropped to his knees, tears falling down to melt the snow beneath his head.

"Nice to mest you HlnaIa, tha n k you,"

It was then, Hajime knew whoever was behind this door was gone. The blood was thick, almost covering his own arm in it. The sound seemed to pick up again, the wind whirling and birds chirping as if nothing happened. And yet, he knew. He knew his soulmate was behind this door, lying dead, with their body coated in blood and a finger to their arm. Hajime couldn't help but sob louder, as he knew. Their last moments were spent with Hajime, their soulmate they didn't even know the age of yet. And yet, it had felt like years had passed and an old friend had died, forever unknown to prying eyes. For they had died, and there was no avoiding it.

You can guess it's Nagito who died. It always seems so terrifying to talk to your soulmate everyday and be unable to be by their side face to face during their last moments. So I wrote about it.

Sorry for the hiatus's, I plan to go on more since school has begun picking up but I wanted to write something!
