Shuichi began to learn how to sew because Kokichi's buttons and coat began to pop off and tear. He tried to do it in secret, but Kokichi found him and ended up showing Shuichi that he already knew to sew and Shu didn't need to learn. This didn't work as intended, because Shuichi roped Kokichi into teaching him how to sew instead of doing it in secret. They can be spotted in their living room, sewing little felt animals for each other. (Often with really odd twists, like frogs with frogs for eyes)
