Makoto doesn't only hold Byakuya's hand for comfort and love, he holds it because Byakuya is the best landmark ever. As a relatively short guy, when the crowds of students flood the hallways, Makoto will always be 10 minutes late to his class as he is trampled under thousands of feet. This became 5 minutes when he stuck nearby Byakuya, and then reduced to one minute when next to Byakuya. And then it reduced to -3 minutes when holding hands. Luckily, Byakuya doesn't mind because Makoto always looked really shaken after hallway dashing, and seeing him smile was a pleasant day-saver.
