Due to some near deaths and intervention from Shuichi, Ryoma now practices tennis with handcuffs on. At first, it was because Maki suggested handicapping himself to improve. Then Kork mentioned how it was such a beautiful union of two worlds, prison and tennis. So Ryoma began seeing it as linking his two shsl's together, and this allowed him to come to terms with being in prison and still having a life outside of prison. Eventually, the handcuffs became apart of his playing style. No one would ever see him play without the handcuffs again, it's his trademark. Despite all the new nicknames;"Shsl Tennis Prisoner," "Handcuffed Lightning," etc etc," everyone knows his real talent. It hasn't changed and will never change.
