He's actually the most superstitious person in their class. Shuichi and Kork are close contenders, but when Korekiyo doesn't believe in physical ghosts and the minor superstitions, Shuichi believes nearly everything. At first, it was because he hung out with Kork, Tsumugi and Himiko who ranted to him about luck based things or seeing the dead. Eventually he dug deeper and found that each superstition had its own story that could've been true if reality was bent just a little bit. Now Shuichi does his very best to restrict most of his activities for fear of curses.
Ryoma and Kokichi know, and no one else.
Ryoma only knows because Shuichi was having an intense staredown with a black cat because he was afraid to break eye contact and die.
