Sam was asleep on the couch. Dean was asleep on the floor nearby. I heard a noise and took the gun from underneath my pillow and aimed it, coming across the blue-eyed gaze of Castiel.

I huffed as I sat up and tossed the gun away "Well this is no use..." I walked into the kitchen and got out a glass and poured some form of alcohol into it. I looked up to see Castiel had followed me.

"Hello, Maxima,"

I nodded as i poured myself another glass "Castiel, right?'

He didn't reply.

Having enough of the silence I placed the glass on to the counter "Why'd you do it?" I looked up at the angel "Why did you save me from the explosion?"

"You don't remember?"

"I remember being on the phone with my brother...and I remember the explosion..." I began pacing the kitchen "But according to Henriksen it took 45 minutes. So please explain to me how..." I turned around only to see Castiel standing really close to me "Cas...what are you.."

"You really don't remember?"

"I just told you..."

"You really don't remember?"

"I'm having a sense of Deja Vu," I said sarcastically.

"So you do..."

I went for the bottle of alcohol and was about to throw it when a hand took it away from me.

"What the hell's going on in here?" Dean asked as he gently put the bottle on the table and wrapped his other arm around me.

"Excellent job with the witnesses,"

"You were hip to all this?"

"I was, uh, made aware,"

"Well, thanks a lot for the angelic assistance. You know, Max almost got her heart ripped out of her chest,"

"But she didn't,"

"I now see why you wanted to throw a bottle at him," Dean muttered to me.

"I thought angels were supposed to be guardians. Fluffy wings, halos-you know, Michael Landon. Not dicks," I said

"Read the Bible. Angels are warriors of God. I'm a soldier," Castiel said.

"Yeah? Then, why didn't you fight?" Dean asked

"I'm not here to perch on your shoulder. We had larger concerns,"

"Concerns? There were people getting torn to shreds down here! And, by the way, while all this is going on, where the hell is your boss, huh, if there is a God?"

"There's a God,"

"I'm not convinced. 'Cause if there's a God, what the hell is he waiting for, huh? Genocide? Monster roaming the earth? The freaking apocalypse? At what point does he lift a damn finger and help the poor bastards that are stuck down here?"

"The Lord works..."

"If you say 'mysterious ways', so help me, I will kick your ass,"

"So, I was right...about the witnesses. This is some kind of a ..sign of the apocalypse," I said

"That's why we're here. Big things afoot," Castiel said.

"Do I want to know what kind of things?" Dean asked

"I sincerely doubt it, but you need to know. The rising of the witnesses is one of the 66 seals,"

"Okay. I'm guessing that's not a show at Seaworld,"

"Those seals are being broken by Lilith,"

"She did the spell. She rose the witnesses,"

"Mm-hmm. And not just here. 20 other hunters are dead,"

"Of course. She picked victims that the hunters couldn't save so that they would barrel right at us," I said

"Lilith has a certain sense of humor,"

"Well, we put those spirits back to rest," Dean said

"It doesn't matter. The seal was broken,"

"Why break the seal anyway?"

"You think of the seals as locks on a door,"

"Okay. Last one opens and...."

"Lucifer walks free,"

"Lucifer? But I thought Lucifer was just a story they told t demon Sunday school. There's no such thing,"

"Three days ago, you thought there was no such thing as me. Why do you think we're here walking among you now for the first time in 2,000 years?"

"To stop Lucifer," I said

"That's why we've arrived,"

"Well...bang-up job so far. Stellar work with the witnesses. That's nice,"

"We tried. And there are other battles, other seals. Some we'll win, some we'll lose. This one we lost. Our numbers are not unlimited. Six of my brothers died in the field this week. You think the armies of Heaven should just follow you around? There's a bigger picture here. You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of Hell. I can throw you back in,"

"You'll have to go through me before you ever lay a hand on him," I told Castiel stepping forward "because you saved me from that explosion for a reason..."

"You still don't get it do you?"

"No, because some angel just keeps giving me cryptic answers!" I shouted

"I didn't save you from that explosion," Castiel vanished.

"M&M?" Dean asked worriedly

I shook my head "I'm going for a drive,"
