As we walked through the door, back at the house, Gilbert and I were shouting back and forth on why he was and wasn't totally a Pomeranian.

"Vhey are tiny and weak!"

"Also cute and fluffy!"

"Don't quote Lilo and Stitch!"

"Okay, you two-" Toni tried interrupting, but Gilbert threw his suit jacket at his face instead.

"Are jou calling me cute and fluffy!?"

"Ja!"

"I have slain thousands on six continents; people fear my name!"

"Cute and fluffy!"

"Gah!"

With that, Gilbert chased me up the stairs and caught up with me as I entered my room, tackling me to the carpeted ground before I could reach my bed. He blew into my neck, and I laughed as I rolled to my side and pushed him off of me. He was strong enough to refuse, but let me do so and fell beside me, lying in the comfy carpet.

"Emu."

"Pomeranian."

"Nein."

"Ja!"

"Nein!"

"Ja!"

"Nein!"

"Ja – we totally sound like we're saying, ninja."

"Mein Gott, you have ADHD," he concluded, and we laughed and looked at my ceiling that I'd glued glow in the dark stars to.

"Vhy'd jou put vhose up vhere?" He asked.

"Reminds me of nature...I love nature. The outdoors, the nights I spent staring at the stars...the ones that didn't end in a bloody mess-"

"Frau?"

"Yep?"

"Vhat happened?"

"Well, one time, it was a bear. It bit my leg before I woke up, but I calmed it down-"

"Jou magically calmed down a bear?"

"I'm pretty good with animals, and he might've thought I was dead, and in his defense, I might've been, I was really dizzy that week, so theoretically, he saved my life by inducing extreme pain."

"The other times?"

"There are sixty-seven, do you have the time to hear them all?"

"I vhink my anxiety is bad enough at vhe moment..."

I laughed and ruffled his hair, he stared back at me, face tinted pink, trying to hide a goofy smile. He shut his eyes tightly and grinned before pulling me closer to him and brushing my hair aside.

My lips met his in a weirdly romantic moment. I say weirdly because we are staring at fake stars on the floor like a poorly made movie remake. But I like it. Because I love him. So I didn't care where we were or how weird it would seem to any walking in on us.

We didn't move our lips or open our eyes; we just let them touch and stay there, until Gilbert pulled my head closer and deepened the kiss. His other hand left my cheek and rested on my hip.

Finally, he opened his eyes and parted, and we stared at each other in quiet bliss.

"Hmm..." he sighed happily and ran his fingers through my hair again.

"I love you, ___," he grinned timidly, and I blushed.

Well, I already knew that, it was extremely obvious. But....no confession of love ever felt this real.
