As always, Batman would go out at night to fight crime and apprehend the last of the Blackgate escapees. Now that he is a vampire, Batman didn't want to depend too much on his new powers and stick with his natural human strength and methods.
Ever since the Joker died, there was barely any crime left to stop in the last few weeks. No bank robberies, no jewelry heist, and no mugging. All of the civilians were resting in the comfort of their homes with their families.
The police officers cheered when Batman helped them capture the last of the inmates and thanked him, little did they know that everything will now be different by the end of the night.
Back at the police precinct's rooftop, Gordon turned on the Bat signal and smoked a cigarette while waiting for Batman to come. He barely seen Batman for a few weeks and hoped he could show up tonight.
While Gordon was smoking his cigarette, Batman showed up on the rooftop unexpectedly.
GORDON: Oh, it's you. I didn't know you were coming here tonight.
BATMAN: I come here every night, don't I?
GORDON: Well not all the time lately.
BATMAN: That's.... not what I meant....
GORDON: (*sigh) I'm sorry... I didn't mean to make you feel that way. It's been a rough few weeks.
Batman was still feeling a bit little guilty about the Joker's death.
BATMAN: I could've saved him. I already had the cure but I was too late.
GORDON: Look, Johnny....
Batman didn't bothered at all now that Gordon knew who he truly is. He's always been a good friend over the years.
GORDON: I know you blame yourself from what happened, don't. It wasn't your fault.
Batman kind of felt better knowing that Gordon had his back but Batman still wanted to change the subject.
BATMAN: What did they do to the body?
GORDON: Once the autopsy was done at the coroner's office, we thought it was best to cremate the body.
Batman and Gordon felt skeptical about the idea of cremating a person's body, but it's the Joker after all. No one will miss him.
BATMAN: Anything else?
GORDON: Well there's one thing got me surprised. After what happened to that Van Helsing crap we've been through, crime rates have suddenly went low, which is a good thing.
BATMAN: Yeah, I noticed that earlier tonight.
GORDON: I guess a congratulations is in order. Good work out there, Batman. The citizens are once again safe thanks to you. So, is there anything else you want to tell me before you leave?
BATMAN: Yes... a goodbye.
GORDON: (*chuckle) So you're not gonna do that disappearing trick thing on me?
BATMAN: No. This is the end. This is the last time we meet.
Gordon raised an eyebrow in confusion from what Batman just said.
GORDON: What are you talking about?
BATMAN: It wasn't like this when I first started. All I ever wanted was to protect the innocent lives from injustice, but after what happened to Joker and the Van Helsing situation, it feels like I'm just putting the people I care about in danger.
GORDON: You're talking about... retiring?
BATMAN: A permanent one, I guess.
Gordon just froze for a moment and threw away his cigarette. The two men remained silent up on the rooftop for just a few seconds until Gordon broke that silence, he seemed really calmed about it.
GORDON: (*sigh) You know, if you do this, our problems might still be the same.
BATMAN: Maybe Batman is the problem, he creates his own enemies and maybe leaving this all behind is the solution to end this nightmare. My family needs Johnny Loughran more than Batman.
GORDON: Well, I do hope you know what you're doing. After all, the Joker's dead and now that all major crimes has been eliminated, but as a father, I understand why you're doing this. Whatever it takes to keep your family safe from harm.
BATMAN: Drac told me that....
Gordon decided to respect Batman's decision. Before Gordon went back inside the building, he looked back at Batman and say goodbye to his friend.
GORDON: Thank you, Johnny. For everything you've done.
BATMAN: Goodbye, Jim.
When Gordon went inside the building, Batman activated his holographic screen on his gauntlet to communicate with Alfred.
BATMAN: It's done. Transylvania is finally safe....
ALFRED: Excellent work, Johnathan. You should be proud of your achievements tonight. Transylvania is forever in your debt.
BATMAN: There's one last thing that I need to finish.
ALFRED: Do what is needed to be done, Johnathan. At the end, I will always respect your decision.
(Background music)
After the call ended, Batman walked towards in front of the shining Bat signal and removed his cowl. Looking down at his helmet, a feeling of sorrow formed within Johnny knowing that this will be the last act of Batman.
As Johnny starred at the shining Bat signal, he finally dropped his cowl to the ground and looked over to the peaceful city for one last time as Batman.
There was no coming back at this moment. A little part of Johnny felt sad that there will be no more Batman once he gets back to the hotel. The most important thing is that Johnny was now free from his pain and this never ending crusade. He can go back to the hotel. To his home, where he can fully spend his entire life with his friends and family, with Mavis.
JOHNNY: I'm coming home.....
Johnny glides down to the ground using his cape and enters the Batmobile driving his way back to the hotel. All that remains back at the precinct's rooftop was his cowl and the Bat signal, which was later exploded as the light disappeared at the dark sky.
He's the hero that Transylvania deserves. A silent guardian. A watchful protector..... The Dark Knight.
Goodbye, Batman..... 😔
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
To the past owes a penance
People's hope is his vengeance
When the sun fades from the sky
Through the black shines a beacon
Right at home among demons
Justice fails what's wrong or right
Isn't always black and white
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
Let the world be unfrozen
Let it grow without poison
May he keep us from demise
The hero with no anthem
Out of fear born a phantom
When the dark conquers the light
From the wreckage he will rise
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
When the night falls
There's a second face that shows
Streets are now feed for the crows
When the night falls
There are devils in his soul
That drive him to save us all
The days grow darker bringin' longer nights and I'm the number one target of the Arkham knight
I've seen a lot of crime cost a lot of Gotham lives start the car up Al time to take another ride
I've become a darker knight not the kind father would want
The mask I put on is only getting harder to don the eyes of a hawk I'm watchin' like a bird in the sky
And if you mention B**** W****
I've never heard of the guy
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
Out of dark a hero forms
City's knight that serves no throne
Saves a life for every ghost
That still haunts him in his bones
Oh the savior cloaked in the shadow
HE'S GONE
HE'S GONE
The road deserted twisted and narrow
DRIVE ON
DRIVE ON
DRIVE ON
