Toast sat up in bed, confusion washing over him almost instantly. How did he get here? The last thing he could remember was that he was next to the van on the side of the road, talking to a... police officer? It was all a bit fuzzy. Toast looked down to see that he had messy, uneven stitches running up his torso, as well as a few stray bandages. That's when he became aware of the quiet snoring coming from beside him. It was Ghost, and he was fast asleep. Toast couldn't help but smile. His friend just looked so peaceful, especially compared to earlier. He knew that trapping that entity must've lifted a huge wait from Ghost's shoulders. The younger man began to shift under the blankets. His eyes opened.
"What the-? Johnny?"
"Good morning, Sir." Toast chuckled quietly, smiling.
"Morning. You look... healthy? Better than you did before." Ghost sighed, rolling over so he was facing him.
"Well, other than feeling a bit dizzy and sluggish, I think I'm alright." Toast told him. His breath caught in his throat as Ghost sat up, revealing that half of his hair was now sticking straight up. He tried to stuff his hair into his hood as an attempt to hide it. It didn't really work, however, and ended up making the fabric look all bunched up. Toast couldn't help but laugh.
"W-what are you laughing at?!" Ghost hissed, looking up at him.
"You look like a troll! Let me fix your hair!" Toast exclaimed. Ghost's eyes narrowed.
"Heck no! I can do it myself this time, thank you very much!" the American snapped, looking away. Toast watched as Ghost pulled out a rubber band from his pocket. Much to his surprise, Ghost actually tied his hair back.
"Aww you look so nice!" Toast purred, smiling.
"...really?"
"Yes, really! It's good to actually see your face, Sir." Toast told him. Ghost blushed a bit, looking away.
"... t-thank you." he mumbled. Toast smiled and nodded before he stood up, walking into the bathroom. When he saw himself in the mirror, he cringed. Toast believed that he looked like an actual zombie. His hair was a mess, his skin was pale, and he was covered in dried blood. Even his eyes were a different shade than they were before. He grabbed a rag and began to clean himself up, watching in disgust as it began to flake off. Toast was doing his best to make himself look like a proper human again when he heard his phone ring. He answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey Johnny, it's Gavin. I just called to let you know that Jimmy crashed over here, in case you were looking for him." his brother explained.
"Oh my... t-thank you, Gavin." Toast sighed. The conversation soon came to an end, and he went back to cleaning himself up. He grabbed a shirt, pulling it on before combing his hair. Toast took one last look at himself, sighing. He still thought he looked like trash (lol me), but there wasn't really anything else he could do for the time being. Toast joined his boss on the bed once more, careful not to sit on anything.
"What did Gavin say?" Ghost asked, looking up at him.
"He just told me that Jimmy is over at his house. Apparently he let himself in through the attic? ...I don't know." Toast sighed. Ghost just nodded, his cheeks still tinted pink from earlier. All was silent for a minute before a random thought crossed his mind.
"... what did you find out last night, Sir? The thing you said that you'd explain to me later?" Toast questioned. Ghost let out a little sigh.
"I found out that... well... Jimmy's my brother. Like, my actual twin." Ghost told him. Toast's eyes widened. How could he not have known before? All the signs were there. Toast felt incredibly dumb.
"That makes sense, Sir."
"That's not even the crazy part! He also told me that I-I'm the one that killed him. I-I... I'm the reason that everything is the way it is! The reason that he's a killer, that my mom is dead, everything!" Ghost whimpered, tears beginning to dribble down his cheeks by the time he finished his statement. Toast's eyes widened.
"Goodness... I-I'm sorry." Toast mumbled. Ghost just nodded, wiping the tears from his face. The younger man leaned up against him, cuddling into his side. Toast wrapped his arms around Ghost, burying his face into his soft brown hair. Today was definitely going to be a long day.
