"That food was to die for", Steve hummed. "Oh it was", Lucas agreed as he and Steve were throwing the trash away and quickly washing the dishes. "How are you feeling?" He asked Steve. "I'm... quite well. Better than I expected, honestly", he said. "You are?" Lucas smiled. "That's great news." "Yeah, I just... I don't know. I mean we cried when we got here but I thought I'd be more... hurt? But I'm... content. I don't know, it's weird. I just thought I'd... I'd obviously be happy to see him but I thought I'd be struggling more. I... love him, love him to death, but... I'm... okay being the way we are now, I think", he said.
"I'm not... rushing to get back into a relationship again. I feel like Tyler isn't either, and so... I think we're at a good spot right now", Steve smiled. "I feel like taking it slow, taking our time, and just... reconnecting on this level again, is good for us. I think that's the right thing to do", he said. "Man, that makes me so happy to hear", Lucas said as he put the plate down and he gave Steve a tight hug. "Just makes me so happy to know that my boys can hang out and enjoy their time and love each other without feeling the hurt of the heartbreak and the break up the entire time. I'm so glad you get to enjoy each other still", he said.
"So I was thinking- ...oh sorry loves, am I disturbing?" Tyler asked as he came from the balcony. "No it's fine", Steve said, letting go of Lucas as they'd still been hugging. "Just telling Lucas that I think we're in a good spot right now where I feel like taking it slow and just reconnecting and spending time on this level again is really good for us, y'know, without rushing anything", Steve said.
"Oh", Tyler blushed a little. "Yeah I... I think so too", he smiled. "I'm... more happy than hurt, with you being here", he said. "Breaking up always hurts but... I'm more glad that we're still seeing each other", he said. "Me too, Ty", Steve said as he walked up to him. He pressed a kiss on his forehead and they hugged each other. "I'm glad I got you Ty, so lucky that you're part of my life", he said. "I'm the lucky one for you putting up with toxic me", Tyler said. "None of what happened happened because you are evil or mean or manipulative. It was out of love and fear and how much you care", Steve said. "You're not a toxic person. Its just that... some stuff happened that was hard to process", he said.
"Thank you for saying that", Tyler softly said. "'Cause I've been... hard on myself about that." "He has", Lucas confirmed. "Every non-toxic person can get into a situation so shocking and hurtful that they end up doing something toxic unintentionally. That's what happened", Lucas said. "It's like... Like it was traumatic", he said. "I... don't know", Tyler softly said. "It... it might've been like that for me", he added.
"Which means you're not a toxic person. You had no mean intentions, you're just scared and worried and I'm really lucky to have someone who cares so much about me like you do", Steve said. "I just brought it to some extreme levels huh", Tyler hummed with a soft laugh. "Maybe just a little", Steve chuckled softly, and Tyler gave him another hug as he closed his eyes. "I'm sorry. Love you", he said. "Don't be. I love you too", Steve replied.
"Anyways... what did you want to say when you came in?" Steve asked as he went back to help Lucas dry the last few plates.
"Right. So, I was thinking... maybe we shouldn't get drunk, but high instead?" Tyler asked. Lucas looked over at Steve. "What d'you say?" Lucas asked. "I think I'd enjoy that more than booze right now, actually", Steve said. "Alcohol always has that risk of me getting emotional", he said. "Right, that's what I was thinking too. In some situations alcohol just makes me sob and I figured getting high together would be nice 'cause we haven't done that in a while", Tyler said.
"If Steve's in, I'm in", Lucas said. "Well, I am", Steve smiled. "Ahh I'm excited! Okay Imma grab the stuff", Tyler said as he skipped to the bedroom.
"Sure thing, love?" Lucas asked Steve. "Y'know what's happened the last few times." "Yeah, I know. That's fine, though. I wouldn't mind", he said. Lucas quirked an eyebrow. "Really?" He asked. "D'you think that's smart?" "If it'd be super smart... I don't know. I guess from an outsider's perspective it absolutely wouldn't be", he chuckled. "But I wouldn't regret it, I definitely wouldn't. I know that for sure", he said.
"Alright", Lucas said. "Just keep communicating with me, okay? If you change your mind, let me know", he said. "I will. But I don't think I'll change my mind. I... I'm more excited than nervous", he said with a soft laugh. "I hope Ty will think the same then", Lucas smiled.

An hour or so later, the three of them were on the balcony, cuddled up together on the couch cushions, definitely high. They were laughing and giggling and smiling as they talked and spent time together. They said I love you a hundred times and all meant it. They felt happy, so relaxed and at ease being around together; the night felt like it was perfect.
Tyler was talking about the music he was soon gonna release. "I've been working on this for so long, like... since last year summer or something? I can't even remember, it's been so long", he said. "I'm so excited", he giggled. "Mhm I'm excited too", Lucas smiled. "I can't wait", Steve said, pressing a kiss on Tyler's cheek which made Tyler smile widely, but his heart skipped a beat when Steve kept leaving kisses on his skin, going down to his neck. Tyler instantly got goosebumps.
"I- s-Steve..." he trailed. "Mhm?" Steve hummed. "I- f-fuck", Tyler breathed out softly as he closed his eyes. "Sh-should we be... doing this..?" He asked. "Probably not", Steve hummed, but he continued. Tyler let out a shaky sigh. "Or do you want me to stop?" Steve asked. "Gosh no", Tyler muttered. "Please don't."
He felt Lucas's fingers on his arm, and he opened his eyes again; this time eyelids hooded. "You good, baby?" Lucas asked. "So good", Tyler sighed, it sounded satisfied. "I- I didn't- didn't expect it but it's- it's so good", he said.
Lucas's hand traveled down Tyler's arm to his thigh, and Tyler let out a soft moan as he got close. "You two are gonna be the death of me", he breathed. He tilted his head to the side more as he let Steve kiss his neck, and he couldn't control his own hands but he let them do what they so desperately wanted as they moved to either of his soulmates, to the front of their jeans, and he was able to undo the buttons before he slid his hands into their waistbands and he wrapped his hands around them.
"Shit, Ty", Steve gasped softly. "This is- this is going way faster than I thought", Lucas let out a soft laugh, and Steve and Tyler did too. "You guys- you... knew this was- was gonna happen?" Tyler spoke the words difficultly. "Weren't ruling it out", Steve hummed. "Unless you think you'll have regrets in the morning. 'Cause then we'll stop", Steve said. "Oh no, no you- you can't stop now", Tyler gasped softly as Steve moved his tongue up Tyler's neck. "Jesus f-fucking Christ", he muttered to himself.
Steve stopped, and Tyler let out a soft whine, which made Steve laugh gently. He rested his forehead against Tyler's. "Can we... kiss?" He asked. "Please", Tyler muttered, and Steve rested his hand in Tyler's neck before he connected their lips.
"Never gets any less hot", Lucas said, and Steve let out a laugh after they pulled back. "C'mere", he said as he grabbed Lucas's shirt to pull him closer, and Tyler whimpered softly as he watched them make out. "You're fucking right, it really never gets any fucking less hot", Tyler muttered. Both boys smiled as they pulled back. "Been a while", Lucas said. "Too long", Steve said, which made Lucas laugh gently.
"Y'know it's past midnight, hm?" Lucas then said to Tyler. "Y'know what that means?"
"Happy birthday, Ty", Steve told him. He pressed a kiss on his forehead. "We'll make you feel extra good those first few moments of being 25." He guided Lucas closer to Tyler, and this time they connected their lips as Steve was the one watching, biting his lip as he did so. How he ever got into the situation where he'd be intimate with two men at the same time, he still didn't quite understand. But it was truly because they were his men. No one else would ever be lucky enough to get close to any of them at the same time. It was truly only between Steve, Tyler and Lucas.
"Gosh I missed being close to both of you", Tyler said. "You're everything to me."

As Tyler opened his eyes the next morning when he woke up, he was pretty surprised to find himself in bed and not on the balcony still, but he also, at the same time, was even more surprised that it hadn't been a dream; he was naked, Lucas was, and so was Steve. Tyler was in the middle as he had both men's arms around him, while Steve and Lucas's fingers were intertwined and resting atop of Tyler.
They were both still asleep, and Tyler took the moment to process what happened the night prior. Holy shit. He didn't have sex with his boyfriend and his ex this time; he had sex with both of his exes. That was a whole different situation, and Tyler couldn't believe he'd found himself in that situation, but he didn't feel a single ounce of regret. They were his favorite people, his favorite men in the world; he loved no one more than these two. And even though he'd broken up with Steve, and that still hurt, somehow this just made him feel like they were gonna be alright, instead of making it all hurt even more. Somehow, weirdly, he felt even closer to Steve now.
Not much later, they both woke up. They both had to take a minute to realize the situation, but Lucas smiled and Steve did too, not making any moves to let go of each other's hand, or of Tyler.
"Do you regret anything? Be honest with me, both of you", Lucas asked. "I don't", Tyler smiled. "I just... feel like I feel even better about the bond between us three", he blushed. "I don't regret it a single bit either", Steve smiled. "There's no one I'd ever wanna be like this with but you two. It's so... easy, to be comfortable with you two, and to let you make me feel loved", he said, and Tyler smiled. "I love you", he said as he pressed a kiss on his forehead. "I love you too. Both of you", Steve smiled. "Do you regret anything though, Lukie?" Steve asked. "No, not at all", he smiled. "Just... Makes me happy seeing you two like this, so comfortable and so... at ease. Means a lot to me", he smiled.
"I know we were all high yesterday, and we aren't now, but..." he trailed. Lucas quirked an eyebrow. "...don't tell me you wanna go for a round two", he said. "Fine, I won't say it", Steve shrugged.
"Are you serious?" Tyler asked. "Only if either of you are too. If you're not then I made a bad joke and I didn't", Steve said, which made them laugh. "Since it's my birthday... can I choose?" Tyler smiled sweetly. "I- ...sure", Lucas gave in with a soft laugh, and Tyler giggled. "Let's go for it again", he said.

"Okay now I really need to get up", Lucas said. As he sat up and got to his feet, he let out a groan. "Gosh that hurts", he muttered. "Been a hot minute since I bottomed the last time", he chuckled.
"Sorry", Steve said. "Oh don't be, you were great", Lucas laughed as he ruffled Steve's hair, then he pecked his lips. "I'm gonna make breakfast for you two", he said. "And yourself please", Tyler smiled. "Oh I will love, don't worry", he told Tyler.
"Maybe you two should just date", Tyler said. "You'd look gorgeous together, fit together perfectly, and you wouldn't have to put up with someone as annoying as I", he added.
"Oh shut up", Lucas said as he tossed a pillow at him, rolling his eyes. "We're not gonna date. Never", Lucas said. "Right. Stop saying that", Lucas nudged Tyler. "And you're not annoying. Both of us fell in love with you so hard, if you were truly annoying we would've never", Steve said. "And that's the truth", Lucas hummed. Tyler sighed softly. "Mkay then", he said. Lucas pressed a kiss on Tyler's hair. "And I love Steve to death, but we're not gonna become a couple now or at any point in the future. Don't even think about that", Lucas said. "What we have now is way too precious to ever risk. There's so much love that I have for Luke, but there's no romantic feelings involved", Steve said.
"So stop thinking of that, 'cause it's not gonna happen. And we'd never wanna do that to you anyways" Lucas said. "Now I'm really gonna make breakfast for my loves", he added before he walked away.
Soon Lucas came back with breakfast in bed for all three of them. They settled on the bed as they ate together.
"I think we should add some more rules", Steve said. "Mhm?" Lucas hummed. Steve shrugged. "To keep us all safe", he said. "Like what?" Tyler asked as he tilted his head slightly. "Like..." he trailed. "We can do this as often as we want, with the three of us, as long as we all agree. If someone changes their mind... Either of us will use the word and we'll stop", he said. "Ohio", Lucas hummed. "Right, 'Ohio' was our word", Steve said. "And let's just... make sure to keep checking in on each other", he said. "Absolutely. For sure", Tyler nodded, and Lucas agreed.
"Also... now that none of us are together right now", Steve said. "If somehow, for whatever reason, any of us would want to hook up with someone else, we have to be honest about it and stop this, so we'll keep each other safe", he said. "That's a really good one", Lucas said. "If either one of us gets a new sexual partner, we'll have to be honest and we'll stop doing this", he said, and Tyler agreed with that too.
"And then I was thinking... Since we're... Well, friends I guess", he started. "Soulmates, but... not romantically right now, but as friendship... Maybe none of us should have sex without the third one there", Steve said.
"So... Ty and I won't do it without Luke, you and Ty won't do it without me, and you and I won't do it without Ty", he said.
"I like that rule", Tyler said. "If we're with the three of us, then... We keep each other safe, we can watch out for each other", he said. "If we take one person out of that, then... we might make mistakes or things might go wrong or get too emotional and whatnot... so if any of us have sex together then it's only when we're doing it all three. Right?" He asked. "Yeah", Steve nodded. "D'you agree too?" Steve asked Lucas. "Definitely", Lucas nodded. "No couples sex, only threesomes!" he exclaimed, which made Tyler and Steve laugh. "I can't believe both of you were on board with this when I brought it up", Tyler laughed. "I can't believe I'm technically having sex with both of my ex-lovers at the same time."
"Let's maybe keep this between us, huh", Lucas chuckled. Tyler smiled softly. "Our secret", he said. "Our secret", Steve smiled at them.
They finished their breakfast and spent most of the morning just cuddling, being with each other, feeling the happiest they'd done in several months. Ever since Steve got drugged, neither of them had been able to feel true joy because of everything that was going on. Now, though, it came very close to that. Maybe it was pure joy. It felt like it.
That afternoon, Tyler was cuddled up to Steve as they smoked on the balcony together. "I miss you", Tyler said softly. "I miss you too", Steve said as he pressed a kiss on Tyler's hair. "I'm glad I'll be here for a few days with you and Luke. I really needed it", he said. "I did too. I thought the distance between us could help but it was just making me feel worse lately", Tyler said. "I'm glad you kept your promise and you came to visit me for my birthday. I'm really sorry I wasn't there for yours", he said softly.
"Stop apologizing", Steve kissed his cheek. "We're here together now. We're celebrating your birthday now, and if we really want to then we'll celebrate mine tomorrow", Steve shrugged, and Tyler smiled. "Thank you", he said as he closed his eyes and he rested his head against Steve's chest.
"Hey Ty?"
"Yeah?"
"No matter what happens between us... We'll be here for each other right?" Steve asked. "Of course, baby. Definitely", Tyler told him. Steve nodded softly. "...whatever happens will be what's best for both of us", he said. "Whatever happens... I think we should know that it gets better. 'Cause we'd do what's healthiest for us both, and we'd only be able to grow together. It'll get better", Steve said softly.
Tyler was quiet, letting the words process in his mind. He looked up at Steve. "Write with me", he said. "Didn't you say your new work was nearly done?" Steve asked. "I don't care, you inspire me. Please, write with me", Tyler asked - almost pleading already - and Steve nodded. "Okay baby", he said.
They finished their cigarettes and Steve and Tyler's hands found each other as they went back inside. "D'you mind if Steve and I write? For a moment?" Tyler asked Lucas. "Not at all, birthday boy. Be my guest, I love watching you guys work", Lucas said. Tyler smiled, and they sat down on the ground of the living room, using the coffee table as desk. Tyler had his laptop and guitar with him, and while Tyler played the guitar, Steve focused on the demo-making on the laptop.
"What inspired you so suddenly?" He asked as he opened a new file. "That line you said. ...'Whatever happens; know it gets better'", he said. Steve smiled. "I love you", he said, because it meant so much to him that he inspired Tyler. That Tyler wanted to write because of him.
"Uhm..." Tyler trailed, trying some things out on his guitar. "Whatever happens, know it gets better..." he sang, trying to find something that he felt worked. "That one, what you did right there", Steve then said. "Go back to that? I... I need a guitar too", he said as he looked around. Lucas got up from the chair and he handed one to Steve, who accepted it. He quickly tuned it by hearing - something Tyler still struggled with but Steve always did without thinking twice - and he copied what he thought Tyler had just played before.
"This, I think this was it", he said and Tyler nodded. "I like it... It needs something more, but I like it", he said. "Maybe it doesn't", Steve said. "Maybe it doesn't need much more. Let's write something... safe", he said. "Especially with that line that you love so much", he said.
Lucas curled up on the arm chair as he watched his soulmates do what they did best; create music and give love to each other. He could watch them do that endlessly.
"Some days don't go quite the way you planned them..." Steve softly sang. "Oh I love that", Tyler gasped softly. "Things could get fucked up and get real bad... Switch 'fucked' to 'messed' up", he then added, and Steve jotted it down on the notepad.
"Whatever happens, know it gets better", Steve continued, and Tyler smiled. "You can be... happy, not sad..?" He questioned. "That's too simple", Tyler said. "No, no let's try it. Simple can be great", Steve said as he wrote it down. He looked at Tyler who was biting his lip as he tried playing what they did, soft wrinkles appearing on his face in concentration and sometimes confusion, before he had it. When he did, he smiled, his eyes crinkling as he looked up at Steve.
"I got it", Steve said. He grabbed the guitar again as he played it. "Oh?" Tyler asked questioningly.
"Whatever happens; know it gets better. You can be happy, not sad; it's the lines on our faces that show us the map where we've been", Steve played.
"How did you... come up with that, so suddenly?" Tyler asked. "Just watching you", Steve said. "Seeing the lines on your face when you focus, or when you're confused... When you're relieved and genuinely smile and your eyes do the cute thingy", he said, and it made Tyler blush. "You inspire me more than you know too, Ty", Steve said. Tyler bit his lip, then he reached over to squeeze Steve's hand. "I love you", he whispered.
A while later, they had set up a simple demo on Tyler's laptop, and the three of them were singing the lyrics they had so far as they played the demo. They danced around the living room together, and Tyler wished it would never end.
"It might feel bleak sometimes, like there's no end in sight for you. No matter how hard you try, you feel like you're losing all you're doing", they sang. "And it can be so rough, it's stressful enough picking up on everything that you do. Some days don't go quite the way you planned them. Things can get messed up and get real bad. Whatever happens, know it gets better. You can be happy, not sad; it's the lines on our faces that show us the map where we've been."
"I love it", Tyler sighed. "I'm in love with it. We have to finish this together, I want to have it as our song. I want you to be the co-writer on this song, please let me", Tyler told Steve. "You don't have to, Ty. You don't have to mention me, I'm just helping out here and there", he said, "No, you came up with the best sentences in this song, and I want to have you on there, so badly. I want to credit you as my co-writer for this song. Please allow me to do so", he asked.
Steve wrapped his arms around Tyler as he hugged him. "I'd be honored", he told him.
