Ch19: What happens in the bathroom doesn't stay in the bathroom

Start from the beginning

"I hate this stupid project," a voice whined.

It was undeniably Nadine. I could detect her voice from anywhere.

Instead of walking out the stall and being greeted with looks of disgust, I stayed where I was in case I over heard something.... interesting. To get a better view I climbed on top the toilet seat as quiet as possible and peeked my head over ever so slightly to get a glimpse of Nadine and Hallie. They were standing in front of the mirrors on the left side fixing their hair.

I felt like a ninja. If I didn't release a sound, they would never notice I was there. Very covert.

"I hate Kat more." Hallie shot, while flipping the bottom of her beach blonde hair over her shoulder.

I could just tell my eyes were glowing with interest.

"Hal, we went over this already. What happened is in the past. She's in the past." Nadine said almost sounding wise.

Hallie then swiftly turned away from her reflection and faced Nadine. Now I could only see the back of her head and part of Nadine's face.

"But she was our friend Nadine! Our best friend since middle school! It's hard to forget the past. We would tell her everything. We shared everything. And it's so silly that all of this is about a boy that we both just so happened to like. At times I feel like things are better without her and that I truly do hate her, but then other times..... I miss what we use to have and wish we never got into this stupid mess. " Hallie's voice cracked at the end and her emotional barriers completely broke down for what I assumed was not the first time.

But I wasn't concerned how Hallie was feeling, I was in shock that I was actually hearing the story of what happened between Nadine and her friends.

There were now more pieces to the incomplete puzzle. My mind started whirling like a spinning top and thinking back to the conversation Jess overheard during lunch. I remembered he said Hallie had asked Nadine something about confronting Brent.

Could it be Brent? Was all this over the guy I know as Porkers?

Did Hallie and Kat fight over Nadine's boyfriend?

Anything is possible, and there are an infinity amount of questions un-asked and un-answered, but then I realized Nadine would have to be mad at Hallie also. Brent is like Nadine's property and Brent will never, ever in my lifetime, go up for sale. It also occurred to me that I was thinking so intently I was missing the dramatic discussion happening before my eyes.

"Hallie stop crying!" Nadine demanded. "I swear you burst into tears every day!"

Hallie's sobs had instantly died down to sniffles, yet her unsteady voice was evidence of her recent breakdown. "I-m sorry. I can't h-help it."

I heard a big sigh before Nadine said, "Come here you." The two went in for a friendly hug.

Hallie was blocking my view of Nadine, but I'm pretty sure her face resembled a look of worriment. Maybe worry for her best friend, or maybe how she was going to get rid of the stain of mascara on her blouse.

"I ruined your blouse." Hallie stated the obvious as she pulled away revealing a clear view Nadine. "And that one looks really cute."

I could tell Nadine was using all the will power she had to ignore the compliment and rather trying to focus on distressed Hallie.

Nadine was now taking a wet paper towel and attempting to scrub away the makeup. "You know you should be mad at Jim too. He is the guy after all. It takes two to make out."

A hard look claimed Hallie's features, "I am mad at him. I don't care if he knew what he was getting himself into. Walking in on your massive crush doing who knows what with your supposed trusted best friend isn't wonderful at all, " she spat.

Those few sentences hit me hard as a rock. So hard I felt my footing slip, my grip release, and my body fall like a boulder had rammed into my chest. I couldn't stop the involuntary groan that had escaped my mouth, and I couldn't stop my brain from thinking that I make a horrible spy.  Ignoring the pain throbbing in various body parts, I hastily scrambled up off the hard floor. I had made such a ruckus I'm pretty sure the entire school heard my not so little crash.

"What was that!?" Hallie, or I think Nadine exclaimed.

I couldn't tell because I had already ran out the stall and out the bathroom with their secret taken with me. Not once did I turn around and show my face. I even made sure to take a different route back to class. As I zoomed pass the classrooms I wondered which one contained Jess and Sydney.

It wasn't as if I could check each one and disrupt class so I headed for my own. I wrenched the door open and speed walked to my seat. I ignored the curious stares and the peeved looks from my teacher. I didn't care if I had made a dramatic entrance, but all that mattered was that I got back before Nadine and Hallie did.

I calmed down my breathing and tried to look natural as I went back to 'doing my homework.' I tried to keep my eyes on the numbers and not Kat.

When Hallie and Nadine came bursting into the room -the teacher growing steadily passed irritation- I wasn't fazed by their perplexed expressions or the accusing looks they sent to every person in the room including me.

What sent shivers down my spine was....

I forgot to wash my hands.

Wow-wee. So after a little break from the populars I decided to let the cat out the bag. So thoughts? Who knew it all along? Who was just plain confused and doesn't understand or doesn't remember anything at all? If it's the latter don't be afraid to ask!

I don't have the best memory but I'm pretty sure my reads are increasing by a considerable rate.... like woah I swear it was only 5,000 a week or two  maybe three (see bad memory) ago and now i'm almost at 6,000! Yayyy! :D thanks guys for reading :)
