"Tammie, wake up!"
"Wh-what?" Was my first thought on this fine morning. I opened my eyes slightly and cringed when bright light entered my sight. I had to squint because my eyes had yet to adjust. At first I thought I was hallucinating a loud voice calling my name, but I had no such luck.
"Tammie!! Homecooked breakfaaaast!" This time the shouting was in sing song. I wasn't fully sure if my mom was yelling or not because of one logical reason. When do we ever have a home cooked meal? But in order to avoid damaged ear drums, I dragged myself out of bed and trudged to the kitchen.
As soon as I entered the kitchen I glanced at the clock. I never thought it was possible to progress from grouchy to more than extremely irritated.
''There better be a good reason why I've been woken up seven o clock a.m on a Saturday!" I complained with slight irritation. My voice was scratchy and rough from sleep, so I basically sounded like an old man with a dry throat.
"Yes, there is actually."
I sat down in my chair now curious what my mom had to say. First, she scooped up eggs and bacon from the pan and placed them on a plate. Then, She set the dish right in front of me and I instantly started shoveling down the delicious food.
"I need you to run some errands for me."
I sure wasn't expecting that.
"That's all?" I dead panned. It probably sounded like 'thasf alf' since I had a mouthful of of breakfast food stuck in my cheeks.
"Come on Tam. It's not that difficult."
I groaned. Where's dad when you need him? I swallowed the lump of food in my mouth so I could talk clearly.
''This can't wait until the afternoon?" I pleaded.
"Nope, here's the list and a folder containing files."
I grabbed the outstretched paper and the folder with my slightly greasy fingers. Hey, it was the bacon!
The list looked like as follow:
1) Pick up laundry from Bong's Cleaners.
2) Stock up the pantry with healthy food items.
Beats me why the emphasize on healthy, but mom attached a decent amount of money to buy the supplies.
3) Drop off documents at co-workers house.
Address: 4567 Delphine St.
Woah, wait a minute. Delphine? That's my street! In fact that's pretty close by.
"Mom, you do know that your co-worker's house is just around the block."
My mom sighed and gave me a look that said "I'm not stupid."
"I know that, Tam. Can you please do this for me?" I was about to comply when I remembered a very important fact.
"I'm suppose to be going with Sydney and Jess to the mall." I exclaimed. I totally forgot about the thing Sydney has been obsessing over non-stop.
"Who are Sydney and Jess?"
"Tammie's new friends."
My dad answered my mother's question before I had a chance to. He walked in on us and immediately started preparing a plate of food and a cup of coffee. Everything was already cooked and ready so he was able to sit down at the table in under a minute.
''Well, that's great that you made friends, Tam, but I'm so busy with work that I need as much extra time as I can possibly get."
I really felt bad that I didn't accept my mom's request in the first place, so in result I gave in.
