*Please, excuse mistakes!!
It was 10:30 p.m. and I just finished getting ready for Nadine's party. I didn't do anything drastic besides curling my hair a little, applying minimal makeup, and of course slipping on my new coral dress. I opted for my white flats instead of heels, since the ones I have aren't comfortable. I didn't even bother putting on my glasses since apparently I got contacts.
My phone beeped from my desk, so I opened the text and read it.
From Syd:
I'm huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur
I replied even though it wasn't necessary.
To Syd:
M'kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
I trotted downstairs to be met with Sydney and my mom. Hu, I didn't even hear her come in.
Their heads turned to me once they sensed my presence.
"Aw, sweetie, you look beautiful!" My mom gushed.
"Yeah, you look good, Tam!"
That may have been the twentieth time I've heard that, yet my cheeks still grew warm from the compliment. All this afternoon my mom was begging me to try on the dress. Since she did give me the money to help pay for the dress, I gave in and put on it on. I'm thinking her reaction will never wear down.
I looked over to Sydney to see her wearing a cute purple dress that made her look taller. Or maybe it was the four inch heels she was wearing? It suddenly struck me that something else was different about her. I studied her appearance for a couple of seconds, to realize the strand of her hair that was once dyed black, was now colored purple. She just can't get enough of that color.
"Thanks, guys." I returned.
"And I've finally met your friend Sydney! We chatted a bit while waiting for you to come down." She continued.
"I can only imagine the things ya'll have in common."
"Don't be a downer, Tam. Personally I think Mrs. Brite is just like you." Her green eyes winked.
My mom chuckled and smiled. "Well, I don't think I'm as crazy as my daughter."
I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. I'm not that crazy....
"Now, I''m going to leave you two go, but remember: No drinking, don't stay out too late, and don't strip off your clothes and dance on a table."
We gave her weird looks.
"Trust me." A slightly horror stricken expression crossed her face, as if she was remembering a particular crazy night.
I faintly recalled wild stories of my mother's high school days, but I don't remember this one.
Before she could dive into a weird tale, I scampered to Sydney and urged her out the front door.
"Okay, love you mom, bye!" I called.
"Nice meeting you!" Syd, yelled over my shoulder.
"Bye, kids! Have fun!"
I kicked the door close with my feet and blew out a breath as Istalked to the silver sedan parked on the curb.
"Geez, Tam. No rush!"
I cocked an eyebrow. "Did you seriously just hear her? That my friend was advice learned from experience."
"I thought she was cool....."
I opened the passenger door and clambered into the car. "Don't get me wrong, I think my mom is awesome, but eventually she gets carried away."
