"World War II was a catastrophic event that..."
Boring; one word that describes Mr. Nelson’s voice, his class, his appearance, and his life. Yes, it may sound harsh, but we all have that one teacher that makes staring at a spider spinning its web feel like an action packed adventure. Unfortunately, Jess and Syd weren't in this class and unfortunately most of the jocks who were my 'enemies' were sitting in this room with me. But fortunately they had to endure the same amount of boring that I had to.
I was slouching in my desk, staring at the door longingly. Only thirty more minutes until freedom!!
My zombie like state was interrupted when a piece of paper landed on my desk. I looked around to see who tossed it there, but everyone seemed to be in the same monotony condition I was in. I fingered the folded paper and opened it. Scrawled in between the lines of the loosleaf was a note that read:
Sorry for stealing your money. Brent and I would like to make it up to you. Wanna sit at our table for lunch?
-Jim
Jim wanted me to eat with THEM? As if. The rational side of me was saying:
Tammie it's a trap! It's not going to be just a friendly lunch!
The greedy and more stupid part of my brain was proposing:
Do it! Do it! This is what you were waiting for! If something happens, then you could definitely put this in Write for the Readers!
I understood both Rational and Greedy Tammie’s opinions. I was actually grateful for the note because it caused me to waste five minutes pondering over what to do. I took a glance at Jim who was paying no attention me. I weighed my options repeatedly. Oh, what the heck! I’ll go for it.
I quickly wrote a ‘sure’ before I could change my mind. I carelessly tossed it back to the jock. I wasn’t aiming for his head but the note hit him square on. I didn’t care much, but Jim looked like he did. He turned around and glared at me. Nevertheless, he opened the note and read my answer. I swear I noticed a satisfied smirk on his lips, but maybe the uninteresting environment was causing my brain go fuzzy.
I sighed and endured the lecturing until the end of class. The sound of Mr. Nelson’s voice droning on and on was putting me to sleep.
When the bell rang I gathered my things and basked in joy that class was finally over. On my way out I noticed the populars were lingering behind in deep discussion. They kept on nodding, grinning and whispering, and darting their eyes to me. I had a nagging feeling that eating lunch with them may not be as thrilling as I thought.

My last class thankfully wasn't as drab like the one before. I bought my lunch in a haste then went over to Syd's table. Jess was already seated and they were discussing who knows what.
I didn't immediately sit down like Sydney expected me too. This caught her attention.
"Tam, chairs don't bite," she teased.
I chuckled at her joke. Now it was time to explain why I wasn't sitting down. I tried to sound apologetic about my reason.
"Actually guys, I was invited to sit at that table." I pointed over to the popular group.
"The freshman table?" Sydney asked confused.
"No... uhm... the one next to it."
"Oh, that table." She emphasised 'that' with an underlying tone.
"I'm sorry guys. It's purely for... academic reasons."
"It's fine, Tam. We'll catch up later. Just don't think that Brent's group is capable of turning all nicey nice in a span of a day. "
