"Oh, thanks." Was all I said.

"Well guys I'm going to go to the library. I have to get a book for history class," Tammie interrupted abruptly. For some reason I wasn't convinced she was really going to the library.

I mumbled a 'see ya' while Sydney gave her a quick hug before she ran into the building. I never understand why girls hug all the time. I swear they even embrace before one has to leave for the bathroom. Or maybe I'm exaggerating a bit.

"We have ten minutes until first period." Sydney stated. I could tell she only tried to sound excited, but failed when boredom seeped into her tone.

"Great." I established without even trying to sound happy. All this morning I was feeling less social than usual.

"So how's Natalie?" Sydney blurted to start conversation. I was slightly taken aback.

We started slowly making our way to a shaded spot covered by the overhang. I scratched my neck as I thought of an answer. Truthfully, I wasn't sure. The last time I saw Natalie was at the party and I haven't texted her or anything. But despite my lack of knowledge of Natalie's whereabouts, "She's doing great," popped from my mouth before I could stop. I didn't even know why Sydney was asking, so it wasn't mandatory to give an accurate answer, right?

I looked down at Sydney who was shifting her feet. We were now leaning against the brick wall, and even though I was slouching a fair amount, my head still wasn't leveled with hers.

"That's cool," I thought she would end it at that, but added more to her sentence. "She's cool too."

"Yeah, she's a good listener when you're talking." I chatted honestly. Every conversation I had with her, I knew there were a pair of ears listening.

"Am I a good listener?" Sydney asked.

I didn't have to think hard about that question. "Sometimes, but other times I think you're in your own world." I laughed at the end. I could hear small chuckles escape her as our discussion dissolved to nothingness.

After our ten minutes were up, Tammie didn't return, so we decided to head to class. I walked into my first lesson with Sydney, and couldn't help but think her actions seemed off beat in a way.

********************

My last class was a breeze. I was the only one to finish the assignment, which made other people envious. They were frustrated because they had homework to bring home tonight. Hey, they can complain, but it's not like my brain got a makeover too.

After class ended, I strolled to the cafeteria and bought a sand-which and sprite before taking my seat at my usual table. It was temporary, but I just wanted to see what Sydney's advice was for today.

As I spotted Tammie and Sydney making my way, I noticed Sydney seemed tense while Tammie seemed normal as can be. Or as close to normal as you can get with Tammie.

"Wow, that was brilliant Tam. Just leaving me there was the best you could come up with?" Sydney dropped her red tray onto the table and plopped down in her seat.

"Hey, I was just trying to observe your.... actions." Tammie protested weakly as she copied Sydney's movements. Though, I could tell she was holding back a smile as they were was talking.

"Pfft, you're the smartest girl I know." Sydney countered sarcastically. She started to stab her salad as she grumbled here and there.

"What's up with you two?" As if just noticing me for the first time, both heads turned to me.

"Oh, hell-o." Tammie addressed to me. She didn't bother to add 'haha, you clearly don't know what we're talking about’, at the end, but it would've been nice to be acknowledged more.
