Ch11: All sorts of women

"Hey, I gotta go." Jess jabbed his thumb in a random direction.

Good move I praised inside my mind.

"Wait! I just met you." 

"Yes, you did." Jess looked a little confused.

"And this is crazy!" She threw her hands up in the air.

"U-uhm."

"But, here's my number! " The girl took out a pen and scribbled out digits on Jess's hand.

"So, call me maybe!" She held up her hand like it was a phone and smiled brightly.

My mouth opened up wide.

"N-no, that song." Sydney whimpered beside me.

"Bye, babe!" She wiggled her dainty fingers then sauntered off to the changing rooms.

Jess didn't delay hurrying away. He spotted our prying selves and marched over. We had no choice but to vacate our hiding spot.

"What a loon." Sydney snorted.

"Sh-she quoted a song!"

"Yeah, we know. We heard the whole thing." I expressed with sympathy.

"My favorite part was when-"

We will never know what was Sydney's favorite part because Jess shut her up by covering her mouth with his hand.

"So far I'm getting numbers but I don't like any of them!"

"It's not like you have to call them back. Though that last girl seemed very enthusiastic about it." I stated with a teasing smirk.

"MMMHHHH!! MMHHMMMMM!" A muffled cry sounded from Sydney's lips.

We totally ignored her.

"She even performed hand motions! I think this is enough for today. Lets go." Jess fumed.

"OW!" He suddenly cried.

"And THAT'S what teeth is made for!" Sydney cheered.

"Teeth is for chewing food! Not eating people's hands!"

"I needed to BBREATTHHH."

"And that's what NOSES are made for!!!!"

I swear those two bicker like an old married couple.

While Jess nurtured his bitten hand we began leaving the store. On our way out Rene' smiled friendly at Jess. Maybe a little bit too friendly.

When were back outside a beep resonated from someone's phone. I checked to see if there was a message for me but saw that someone had texted Jess.

Sydney, instantly intrigued, was trying to take a look at his phone.

I couldn't see why she wanted to be involved with him when just a minute ago they were fighting.

Jess was way taller than her so all she was going to accomplish is toned calves from jumping to get a look over his shoulder.

"Awee, please! Can I see who you are talking to?" Sydney pleaded.

"Nope." Jess replied casually. A small smile formed on his lips. I couldn't tell if the reaction was from Sydney's complaints or from the message.

"You're no fun." Sydney pouted and stormed ahead. I shook my head amused. She can get irritated very easily.

I was secretly interested also so I planned on reacting once his guard was down. Once Jess's eyes were glued onto the screen I took my chance and sneaked behind him stealthily and snatched his phone.

"Hey, give it back!" He protested.

"Nope." I said like he did earlier.

I automatically scrolled to the top and saw 'Natalie' in bold letters. It was the girl from the park. I was a little surprised they kept in touch.

My greedy eyes were scanning the conversation when out of the corner of my vision I detected a hand cautiously reaching towards the phone.

"Don't even think about it, bud." I ran off to avoid the device being napped from me. This was probably my only opportunity so I was set on reading through the conversation. As I sprinted my hardest to get away from Jess I read the most recent messages.

Jess: I was so frustrated with my cousin i thought the spinach dip would shut him up. nbd.

Natalie: Hahaha, why would u do that?

Jess: idk. I guess I've been a bit stressed lately so i just snapped

Natalie: do u wanna relieve ur stress by hanging out Saturday?

There was nothing left after that. After quick thinking I stopped in my tracks and typed a quick reply and sent it.

Jess: Sure. Theres a party Sat. if you want 2 go to that. I could pick u up?

Jess stopped right behind me and was crouching down trying to regain his breath. The delay was long enough for me to read the response.

Natalie: yeah sounds cool ^_^ My address is 1568 Gateway Ct. See you then! :))

"My friend I just set you up for a date." I smirked as I tossed him his phone. My lips rose into a triumphant grin at his shocked face. I ran off to catch up with Sydney before he could say anything.

I found Sydney resting on a bench under a streetlight. It was about to get dark soon so I guessed this was where we would part our ways. As soon as Jess appeared he shot me accusing looks. I stuck my tongue out at him. Sydney was oblivious to it all.

"We have to move on so considered Women to be a success. Even though it's pretty much controversial."

I agree with that one. I mean who would think Jess was gay? Or what person would give a guy their number by acting out a song? I suspected we were all thinking the same thing.

"I guess that's it guys. I have to get moving so see ya'll tomorrow." Sydney finalized.

"Bye." Me and Jess chorused.

It was just the two of us now. As soon as our friend was out of ear shot Jess fired off questions.

"Why did you do that? What party? Does she even like me!?"

"Chill dude." I signalled with my hands to cool off. "I did it because you would've said no. Which would've been dumb. Plus, I doubt you would want to hang out with Rene' or that Carly Rae Jepsen wanna be. The party I was talking about is Nadine's. I could see it in Sydney's eyes that she had an urge to attend so I thought it would be your best option. You could be a part of the plan and hanging out at the same time! And of course she likes you doofus! Why would she ask you out in the first place?"

If that long speech wouldn't convince him I don't know what could.

"Yeah, but we would have to crash the party! And she likes me?" At the end a goofy smile appeared on his lips.

"I've heard there's plenty of people that go to these things so four people could go un accounted for. And yeah. Natalie. Likes you." I emphasized. "But don't let it go to your head."

"Uh huh." Jess mumbled distractedly. He seemed to be in another world.

I chuckled at his dubiousness and lead him the way home.
