Ch7: It's a hectic Saturday

Start from the beginning

"Don't worry about thing mother. I'll be your little helper for the day!"

She smiled but it was halfheartedly. I didn't realize until then that my mom looked exhausted. There were heavy bags underneath her eyes that she tried to cover up with makeup, and gray hairs were peaking through her dark brown hair. I swear she'll work herself to death. The wonderful breakfast was probably to put me in a good mood. In the end all I want to do is make my mom happy.

I ate my last bite of eggs and placed my dishes in the sink. I planted a kiss on the cheeks of both of my parents which they responded with hugs.

Before heading out I wanted to freshen up so I would look decent in public. I tamed my hair by brushing it repeatedly. I braided it to the side so it would rest on my right shoulder. It was a little frizzy but my hair is always like that.

Next, I ventured to my already organized closet. After school on Friday I finally finished unpacking my stuff. My room was now decked with blues, oranges, greens, and yellows that were bright and made my room pop with color.

I pushed aside my school clothing that was balancing on hangers. I separated my normal attire from  the outfits I considered nerdy. That way my closet wouldn't be a jumbled mess and I was determined to keep it tidy.

I grabbed a pair of denim shorts and a purple v-neck. I slipped on my vans and observed myself in the mirror. I guess you could say I inherited features from both my parents. While my hair was blonde with light brown streaks in it, I still received my blonde hair and blue eye color from my dad. My bone structure mirrored my moms strong confident look. I had my own style and personality that made me, me. I don't obsess over my appearance or how I should act. Overall, I'm just Tammie.

Contented with everything, I pulled out my phone to make a most likely regrettable phone call.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T COME!?"

Yup, feeling the remorse.

"I'm really sorry, Syd! I know we all agreed to meet up today, but I can't make it. I have to do a favor for my mom."

"Well, can't you head over to the mall after you're done?"

"I won't have a ride." I reasoned.

"I can pick you up!"

I thought about it for a second, but I stuck with my original opinion.

"No, that won't work. We can definitely do it next Saturday. I read in the newspaper that every store is going to have major discounts to clear out their merchandise."

I heard grumbling and mumbled protests, but eventually a defeated sigh rang through the receiver.

"Okay, fine. I'll just spend my Saturday by planning more."

"You do that, Syd. And by the way I'm really sorry!"

"Yeah, yeah, you said that already."

"I have to go now, so I'll see you later."

All I heard was a unenthusiastic yup. I felt bad for ditching Sydney, but I couldn't worry about her too much since I had to start the errands.

I don't have a car so I was limited to walking. I was acquainted enough with the area to know where everything was. I figured I would just complete the tasks in order. That meant paying a visit to Bong's Cleaners.

The cleaner's was about a seven minute walk. Traffic was reduced since it was still kind of an early morning. I crossed the street without any problems and took out the ticket number for my mom's clothes.
