Chapter 30

[Present time - at the abduction place]

Jieun cried as Jun lied on her lap unconscious after being hit by the wooden bat. She didn't even see the face of the culprit before he ran off. But as the scary guy, Youngdo, pointed out, the target was Jun she was just a bait.

Maybe that was the reason why a bunch of gangsters ran away, or maybe it was because of the sirene alarming the approaching police. But it didn't really matter, she couldn't hear anything besides her own sorrowful wail and the echoing sound of the bat hitting his skull.

Gentle arms reached for her shoulder and through her blurry vision, she saw Hanmin looking down at Jun with studying eyes. She wasn't in her right mind to even ask where in the world he came from, her world was a big mess to even begin with.

He could be appointed at some outcasted hospital? He's a good doctor after all.
He could come with the ambulance? She didn't know there even was a chance to bump into him here but was convinced that it was for the better. For now, his presence was a big comfort.

"Don't worry it's going to be okay" He said before taking off his white shirt and formed it into a soft ball then put it behind Jun's head to block the bleeding.

Jieun was just hoping that he knew what he did, cause she was in a mess to even get a hold of her trembling hands. And she had every reason to feel reassured cause Haneul was a doctor. A really good one.

Flashing red and blue lights were blinking violently outside, not after too long 3-4  men stormed into the building with a stretcher.

Seeing the massive blood amounts on the floor Jieun squeezed her eyes and clenched her bloody hands to her chest, Haneul couldn't help but to notice and pulled her into his embrace to cover her view. As their body touched she felt how her whole body began trembling and let out a restrained sob, her tears soaked Haneul's t-shirt. He gently stroke the back of her head.

"Don't cry it's over now, it gonna be okay."

Jieun, Hanmin, and a few of the other guys were waiting in front of the operating room as Hanmin informed them about the current situation.

Their Grandma literally fainted by the news, poor grandma, having to receive the bad news about her grandsons twice in a day. Firstly Hwang Ho and now Jun.

Baekeun and Joonha sat on the chair with hands folded on the knees while staring blankly at the floor. After a few minutes, Jeongso and Hanna arrived with faces as pale as a ghost.

"How is he?" Hanna said before Jeongso could utter a word.

"In the middle of a surgery" Hanmin explained.

"Why didn't you perform it?! Neorology is your profession!" Hanna blamed as she looked at her brother with angry eyes.

"As I personally knew the patient I wasn't allowed to, they were afraid that would affect my judgment." He explained.

Jeongso's eyes wandered down to Jieun who sat with wrapping arms around her knees and with feet on the chair as a little child. She was quite to the extent that she would be unnoticed if it wasn't for the red bloodstains on her clothes and hands.

A police officer came to ask Jieun for a statement, but Jeongso stopped him in doing so, distanced himself from the crowd, Jeongso voluntarily gave his statement since he also was involved in the case.

Jieun was in her own thoughts and didn't really care what was happening around her. The only thing in front of her eyes was Jun laying there covered in blood. She couldn't help but feel that everything was her fault.

"Jieun. I love you," He said before passing out. How did he know that? Did he remember everything or did something stir up his pass memories? Then was this the consequences of him remember? Was all this just a setup or was this the lead due to her mistake? She has always wished to tell him her real name to hear him call the name of her own in a caring way. But this was not it. She was scared that this was the last sentence she would hear from him ever.

As Jeongso walked outside with the police officer Baekeun glanced at Jieun and felt innerly bad that she had been through all this. He took a seat next to her, hoping to come up with something to make her feel better but no words escaped.

He missed the time where things weren't that complicated. When she makes his heart skip a beat as she for the first time sent him a glare for pulling her hair. The smile on her lips and the time at the pool. He missed every moment.

Hyung you have to get better. Baekeun sincerely prayed. Jeongso came back and sat beside Jieun,  his hands in his pocket.

"Let's get you changed" Jeongso said but she didn't respond.

"Yeah, you can come back after getting some rest" Baekeun added.

Jieun ignored their words as it wasn't for her. Joonha had observed the situation and knew that it wouldn't be any better for her to stay, since the surgery was told to take several hours and only thirty minutes had passed.

He had spent more time with Jieun compared to his cousins and hoped that she at least would listen to him. Joonha stood up from his seat, walked across the corridor, and bent down in front of her not saying any words before she allowed their eyes to meet.

He gently put his hand on hers and unlocked her arm, making her unwrap herself from the uncomfortable position. The other guys were speechless, the way Joonha approached her, the way she accepted his gesture, everything was something they couldn't put into words.

"Hyung wouldn't be happy to wake up seeing you in this state," He said gently and her eyes became softer as she heard him talk. Joonha said is as it was a matter of fact that Jun would wake up, something she really needed as assurance.

"Get yourself changed, I'll call if anything happens" He lifted her chin as she tried to avoid gaze, knowing that he could convince her to leave this place.

"I don't...." Her voice cracked as she hasn't been using it this whole time.

"Don't say you forgot how to make a call," He joked, tilting his head to the side as she turned her head. She felt bad that Joonha had to force a smile just to try to make her feel better. He already had enough to worry about, his two cousins were in a critical state and he didn't need to add her on the list of his worries.

Jieun gently nodded, making Jeongso and Baekeun let out a relieved sigh. Jeongso for the first time sent Joonha eyes of gratitude and Joonha slightly bobbed his head with a smile saying you're welcome.

Jeongso supported his hands around Jieun shoulders as her legs were given in as jelly. She got on her feet and with his support they made their way out of the hospital.
