Alexus pov : Chapter Forty-Seven

After dropping clothes and hygienic products off with Josiah and Brianna, Alexus took the kids to a diner for breakfast. She hoped the change of scenery and a hearty meal would lift their spirits after yesterday.

As they entered the diner, Giovanni's eyes widened with excitement at the sight of the pancakes on the menu. Alexus couldn't help but smile at his enthusiasm.

Alexus had never said yes more in her life, if they wanted ice cream she couldn't find it to say no.

They wanted to go to the movies later? She had it scheduled. She didn't even know a new Spider-verse movie was coming out but they were seeing it later.

Alexus couldn't help but feel a sense of relief as she watched Giovanni barely stay in his seat with excitement upon hearing the news. Seeing him finally able to break free from the weight of the past few days filled her with a sense of joy that she hadn't felt in these last few days.

Throughout the day, it seemed like everything had turned around. The kids had been able to enjoy the simple pleasures of childhood again, even if it was just for a little while. She knew after the movie theater they'd go straight to sleep so after a lengthy grocery trip she was making dinner.

"No chicken is better." Giovanni sighed playing with his Rubik's cube at the table. You'd think G and Iyhana were long-life friends that couldn't stand each other.

Iyhana shrugged, sitting at the counter watching her mother cook, "you're just weird."

Sesan stiffed a laugh from the couch as he watched the first Spiderman movie getting caught up. G ignored her, "Shrimp is just nasty."

Iyahna's jaw dropped, mugging him, "you need to grow up," she said with no hesitation.

Giovanni looked at her like she was crazy.

"Uhm, Iyhana." Alexus's eyes widened, as she laughed, "Who are you, to tell him to grow up." She laughed.

Iyhana poked her lip out, "That's what you told me." Alexus couldn't help but chuckle at her daughter's response as she stirred the pot on the stove. "That's not the point honestly," she replied jokingly.

As she looked back at her daughter, she couldn't help but marvel at how much she had grown in such a short time. It seemed like just yesterday that Iyahana was still learning to walk and talk, and now she was able to dish out 'helpful' advice to her younger cousin she swore was her son.

They quickly ate, then right after everyone was washed and dressed. Alexus made sure to keep tabs on Josiah and Brianna still waiting at the hospital.

Despite the fun they had that day, she couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that hit her every now and then. She wanted to be there with them but knew the kids needed a distraction as well.
