Brianna pov : Chapter Forty-Five

"You're lying!" Alexus jumped up from the couch smiling when Brianna revealed the ring on her finger. "Oh my god, I'm so happy for you." She hugged Brianna and examined her hand.

"Damn, Kemar was not playing." Alexus thought it was clear Kemar had put a lot of thought and effort into the ring he chose for Brianna.

The carat weight alone was definitely something to brag about, but the beauty of the diamond made it impossible to ignore. Alexus couldn't help but admire it as well as Brianna's obvious joy.

"One thing we gon do is get their rings secured." Alexus smiled. "Are you excited?" Brianna nodded. "I'm more than excited," Brianna said, still examining the ring on her finger. "Kemar really outdid himself with this one. My mother would be so damn happy." Alexus nodded in agreement.

"Not just about that, Bri. You gotta have a house, two smart-ass sons, and you are doing good for yourself. Yeah, you may have had an advantage others didn't but girl, you ran with it. Who do you know cutting off rich ass aunties and uncles?" Alexus looked at her like she was crazy making Brianna smile as she wiped her tears.

"Who you know choppin' it up with a rivals son, telling daddy to deal with it. And it works?" Alexus shook her head, "You crazy ass hell, and your mama would be damn proud."

"I love you," Brianna smiled, hugging Alexus. As she held her best friend and embraced the moment, Brianna couldn't help but think about how lucky she was to have Alexus as part of her life. Alexus had always been there for her during the rough times, and now, she was here to share in the joy of her engagement.

"Josiah at the hospital too?" Brianna asked. They had both been chilling on the couch taking the time to themselves since the kids and guys were out. Alexus smiled and nodded in response to Brianna's question. "Yeah," she said, "how is Kemar holding up?"

"He isn't showing it but he's definitely taking it hard. It's just hard being there for someone who is just emotionally distant with that subject."

As Alexus listened to Brianna recount her conversation with Kemar, she couldn't help but feel a surge of empathy for him. It was clear that he was struggling with the weight of his emotions and trying to keep a strong facade for everyone else.

Alexus understood the feeling all too well, having been through her share of hardships. She hoped that Kemar would find a way to process his grief and come out stronger on the other side.

They continued their night indulging in marathon sessions of various popular series ranging from the romantic fantasy of Twilight to the gripping intensity of The Hunger Games.
