34. Other side of emotions

In the hospital,

"Virat please don't be stubborn. Please eat something. You have a surgery tomorrow because of which you can't have anything later on. So please Abhi kuch kha lo kiddo" requested Mahi, forwarding him the bite of the food which Anushka and Ritika had prepared for him.

"I don't want to eat anything. Mera man nahi hai" Virat said trying to get a position where he could fail a little less painful and disoriented.

"Please Bubs I mean Virat, it's really important" Anushka said requesting him.

"I want to be alone, please leave for sometime" Virat said moving his face to other side.

"But Vi" Ritsy interrupted.

"Please Mahi bhai" Virat said in such a tone that Mahi didn't have any option.

Mahi agreed and moved out of the room with Anushka and Ritika.

Rohit who had just arrived with Ab, "why are you guys outside? Why no one is with Vi? Is he okay?" He asked immediately.

"Where were you? I am calling you non stop Rohit" Mahi asked instead of answering his question.

"He said that he wants to be alone for sometime. Hasn't even had his food properly" Anushka said before they could argue. She was really worried about Virat.

"Alone.. usne bola and aap log maan Gaye" Rohit said and moved in the room.

He entered and saw Virat looking out the window lost in his own thoughts. He sat beside him slowly not wanting him to be startled.

"Vi" he called softly.

Virat turned his face and saw Rohit sitting there by his side. He felt it was his dream but when Rohit held his hand he understood that it was not, Infact it was real and he was there.

"I requested to be alone" Virat said turning his face.

"Well request and me doesn't go hand in hand" Rohit said, he knew something was on his mind.

Virat just sighed at that and tries to lay down properly. Rohit supports him immediately.

"When can I get discharged from here?" Virat asked.

"At the moment we are not sure when, as tomorrow u have surgery. So it will take time" Rohit answered, taking it as a positive sign that Virat didn't said him to leave.

"Why didn't u have anything?" Rohit said seeing the plate.

"Why did you leave me alone?" Virat asked instead, "you said you will be there but you were not. Everytime I woke up u were not there with me. So now I want to be alone, please leave from here"

"Vi look.."

"Please I am too tired to listen to your explanations right now. My head is aching a lot. Do me a favour please. Call the doctor and leave me alone" Virat said not even looking at him.

Rohit felt really bad due to that behaviour of his. He thought like old days he would pester him and make him smile something like that which he always did. But no nothing like that happened.

Back in 2016 when Anushka and Virat broke up. He had shut everyone out including Mahi bhai but he let Rohit stay. Rohit was stubborn enough to not leave even if Virat yelled at him and in the end he broke down infront of him and Rohit held him, talked to him, made him smile again.

But today it was not the same, this was not his Vi. He was not, there was no warmth in his voice. For the first time since everything happened, today Rohit felt utterly helpless and defeated.

May be he was just trying too much. He should leave now. He should leave his obsession to know everything. Because certainly it didn't matter now, the way Virat was behaving it was no use now.

Rohit got up and left the room without saying anything. Seeing that tears made way down Virat's cheeks.

"What happened? Is he okay?" Ab asked him as he came out of the room. Ab had sent Mahi, Anushka and Ritika home for some rest as they both were at the hospital now.

"He is not our Vi— Ab.. he is someone else there. He is not my best friend" Rohit said feeling bad about whatever is going on. He wanted everything back now as it was.

"What are you saying Rohit?" Ab asked making him sit and passing him water as he looked dazed more than anything else at that moment.

"He just seems so distant Ab. I have tried everything now. I have been so patient as he doesn't remember anything but now I can't anymore, I can't Ab" said Rohit giving up.

Ab was surprised by that Becoz Rohit was the one who was strong and had the belief that Virat will remember everything.

"He didn't trust me enough Ab. He didn't.. he said everything to Jinks and Smith but not me. He didn't tell me anything and left everything, went somewhere leaving me alone. Here I was trying to put things right and he was not there with me. Now when I am here, he doesn't want me near him" Rohit broke down.

Ab couldn't help but keep his hand on his back running soothing circles if it helped anyway.

"What did he say?" Ab asked softly.

"He wants to be alone. He doesn't want to hear anything from me. He didn't even look at me Ab" Rohit said in a low voice.

"You go to him, talk to him. He will listen you" rohit said before Ab could console him.

And then before either of them could go into Virat's room they heard Nurse yelling for Doctor.

"Patient have got unconscious. Very high fever" nurse informed the Doctor. And they rushed into the room.
Ab and Rohit saw from the glass window and saw Virat on the floor unconscious with all the drips broken, his hand was bleeding.

It seemed he was trying to get up from his bed. Tears made through their eyes seeing their friend like that.
