Buzzes woke me up from my dream of pink clouds of cotton candy and people as hotdogs and gummy bears frolicking in fields of french fries, an unfortunate event if I do say so myself. Or maybe not, since that second part made it almost a nightmare. [a/n: this is what happens when you let your friend write]

    I checked my clock and groaned - I don't need to wake up at 2am. I quickly skimmed over the texts from Jimin:

Jimin ^-^:

Rona

Rona are you up or

Oh great you're not

Delivered at 1:40am

Still not awake, I opened the group chat, currently at a record 40 new messages.

Yoongi:

Who's still up?

Jimin ^-^:

Hi Hyunggggg

Yoongi:

Ok anyone else?

Jimin ^-^:

Rude ;-;

Namjoon:

I'm sorta here but I can't really talk

Yoongi:

Y? I need someone to check some lyrics I made.

Jimin ^-^:

I can!

Yoongi:

nAMJOOOOONNNN

pLSSSSSSSSSSSS

Namjoon:

Oh look who also got capitalization AIDS from Taehyung

Yoongi:

Fine fine I'll show Hoseok tomorrow

Wyd now that makes it so hard to talk

Namjoon:

Spending the night at my sister's

She's still awake and I don't wanna fall asleep if she's still up.

Yoongi:

Oh but weren't you at your sister's yesterday?

Namjoon:

Yeah but

You know

    His sister again? And Jimin is all freaked about me getting up... I wondered, quickly typing a response back.

Rona:

What's the problem?

    I got an immediate response, as if he was waiting for the past ten minutes.

Jimin ^-^:

Namjoon

He still hasn't gone to sleep

Is typing...

Rona:

I read the group chat

What am I supposed to do?

Jimin ^-^:

Well I'd assume he's still awake

Rona:

How can I help I mean?

And I'm half asleep so

Jimin ^-^:

Go to the group chat

    I switched to the other chat where Jimin had just texted a new message.

Jimin ^-^:
RapMon r you still here?

Namjoon:

Yeah...

Rona:

Hey I'm up what's up

Namjoon:

Oh hey

Why are you up?

I glanced around, looking for an excuse around me.

Rona:

Dog woke me up

Namjoon:

Cute

Rona:

Yea

You okay?

Namjoon:

Yeah just waiting for my sister to fall asleep

Insomnia and stuff...

Rona:

Oh, try stacking fluffy blankets on top of her

Fuzzy things make me happy ^-^

Namjoon:

Haha I would but she doesn't really have a bunch of fluffy blankets at her apartment.

Rona:

Ah okay

    There was no response after that, the chat going as silent as the night it was. I received a message from Jimin in the private chat.

Jimin ^-^:

He wrote you that letter right? Did it talk about his sister's apartment?

Rona:

That she lives alone and has her own job and stuff.

Jimin ^-^:

She deals with Insomnia and some other thought-based things, I don't know all of them, but he's always splitting his time at her place and at home

Tbh he could just move and save the travel but his parents don't think he visits her anymore

Rona:

Isn't his sister younger? Aren't parents responsible until they become adults? She could sue her parents

Jimin ^-^:

We've all mentioned that, she doesn't seem for it.

I think she's concerned that it'll affect Namjoon.

    I shook my head, quickly typing a response. Before I could respond Jimin replied:

Jimin ^-^:
Namjoon just texted the group chat saying she's asleep

I'm going to bed ttyl

Rona:

Alright gn

Jimin ^-^:

gm*

    I laughed at the correction, the laugh weak since I was so tired. I glanced at the muted group chat, everyone who was still up saying goodnight (or good morning) to Namjoon. I typed a quick response, then set my phone on the nightstand, rolling over in the comforter.

    "Mornin' Rona," Alice said as she passed my locker, patting my back. I gave a little wave as she turned into a class down the hall. I quickly grabbed my math binder and the other things I need, shutting the locker door behind me.

    "Hi Ronaaa~" Lily smiled, extending my name as she passed by. Instead of continuing down the hall she turn around and walked next to me for a few seconds.

    "Any chance you can sit with me at lunch today?" She asked, poking my arm. I couldn't help but laugh, reply, "Sure, I'll take care of stuff and eat with you."

    "Cool! We sit near the side of the cafeteria," Lily explained, squeezing my arm a little before she let go, turning around to walk back down the hallway. I watched her go down the hall and disappear into the crowd. When I turned back around I nearly ran into someone.

    "Aish, watch where you're going." The girl said, using her free hand to brush off her arm. She made a little huff, walking past me. A blond girl followed her.

    "Waittt..." She panted, "What's the big deal? If we walked on the right side of the hall, maybe we wouldn't keep running into people!"

    "No one cares, Julie!" The girl shouted back, now far enough ahead of her friend that she had disappeared from both of our lines on vision.

    "Geez, sorry about-" The girl began, my name registering her name as Julie. "Oh. Rona."

    I tilted my head a little, wondering why she had stopped herself. Before I could say anything, she headed off down the hall to follow her friend.

    Weird... I thought, heading down the hall for a few more seconds, only to run into another person, only this time they weren't there to complain about me being in their way.

    "Hi Jungkook," I said as he approached, balancing his calculator on top of his math binder. He stumbled to the side to catch it from falling off, then started walking next to me.

    "G'morning," He mumbled, staying concentrated on his precisely placed mountain of things. I laughed a little, taking his calculator and holding it in my free hand.

"I gotcha," I told him. He finally looked up from his pile.

"Thanks," He smiled, "Don't break it though. It's new."

I glanced at the shiny calculator and it's fancily placed nametag made of red and black patterned duck tape. When we arrived at Mrs. Ray's classroom and greeted her, I set his calculator on his desk when he sat down.

"Nice nametag." I commented, multitasking and getting out the homework, plus a paper to do the warm-up.

"Thanks, I made it last night." He said, picking up the calculator to observe the design better. "My older brother got the tape for my birthday last month."

"That's sweet of him," I commented. I glanced at his empty desk, grabbing an extra piece of notebook paper and setting it on his desk. "Here,"

He gave a little nod, still staring at the red and black pattern.

"OKAY CLASS GET IN YOUR SEATS. IT'S ALREADY 50 SECONDS AFTER THE FINAL BELL!" Mrs. Ray shouted, startling anyone who was still standing up. The loud noise caused me to look away from the torturous homework I'd spent forever on last night, and even the troublemakers in the back were paying attention.

"Today we're gonna play a review game-" Mrs. Ray began, suddenly cut off by the cheer of some students. "-BUT IF YOU KEEP TALKING WE WON'T." She added loudly, scolding the noise-makers.

"Finish up the warm-up and we'll go over that. I'm passing around a worksheet. For the next 10 minutes, do as many as you can, any order you want."

~~~
    "Time's up!" Mrs. Ray told us as the online timer went off, scaring most of us in the long silence. There was some mumbling from around the room, some people stretching from being stuck working for a long time, some complaining they hadn't even started yet.
    "Quit groaning," Mrs. Ray snapped, definitely in a sharp mood today. "This is a group effort. There will be two teams - that's why I said to do the problems in any order you want. Hopefully someone on your team did the bottom half of the page." She said with a slight smirk.
     I looked around at the people around me as Mrs. Ray put her arm out and split the class into two groups, one on her left and one on her right. I turned around and joined our teams discussion of 'review game strategy'.
    "Who finished the page?" A boy asked, looking around. When he was replied with a long silence, he pointed at the person next to him. "Who got the farthest?"
    Jungkook glanced at my paper, then across the group at a brunette who was counting up the problems she did. "Joy," he began, causing her to look up. "How many did you get done?"
    "Um," She began, counting the last few questions. "Twenty six, but I skipped around and didn't do the word problems."
Jungkook nudged my arm and I glanced at him, then my paper. "I have all the word problems done."
"Awesome, we'll be okay then." the boy said, taking up the role of leader of the group.
"This is how it'll work," Mrs. Ray began, erasing the stray marks on the board. "Each team will send one person up with their paper. I'll name a random problem, write the answer and get back to your seat as fast as possible. Pick your first representative!"
For our team, one of the boys went first against someone from the other team. Rounds went fast, people quickly scribbling answers on the board and running back to their seats. Some questions left them confused, the people from each team not having the answer. Luckily the girl on our team quickly started solving the problem on the board, circling her answer and sliding back into her seat while the other team started shouting answers at their representative, causing Mrs. Ray to scold them.
"Okay, okay, Rona you're up." our leader said, pushing me up and out of my seat. I learned his name as Dean, finally recognizing at least a few more names as they went up and we cheered for them to come back to their seats. The kid next to me held his paper determinedly and we both looked towards Mrs. Ray.
"Number 17." She said simply, causing a sudden shuffle of stress to grab the marker and copy down the answer from the paper. It was one of the word problems I had done, so I quickly scribbled the answer on the board and circled it, capping the pen and tossing it into the marker tray beneath the board. I swung around to my seat, Jungkook holding my desk down with both of his feet to make sure it didn't fall over (which had already happened with the other team). Joy had her arm extended over the edge of my desk and pulled me into my chair as I went around the desk. We all laughed and Jungkook pointed towards my opponent who hadn't sat down yet. Dean gave me a high five, then patting Jungkook on the back.
I gave a cheerful smile, still laughing. As he started to get out of his seat, but then stopped to tie his shoe, I leaned down and whispered, "Get 'em,"
Jungkook got up with a smile, grabbing his paper of his desk. My smile faded a little when I noticed his opponent was Jack, already standing at the board, marker in hand. However, Jungkook still wore a confident smile.
"Alright, question thirty-four." Mrs. Ray instructed, causing me to drop my tensely excited shoulders. Joy sucked a breath of air in, sighing. Dean glanced at both of us and looked over our shoulders at our papers.
"That's the last problem, isn't it?" Dean whispered, replied by my correction, "Second to last."
Nonetheless, Jungkook hadn't gotten to that problem, not to mention it was a word problem and he skipped almost all of those. When I looked up from my paper, Jack had already written "24.5" on the board and was on his way to his seat, walking with quite a bored expression.
It was obvious Jungkook stole a glance at Jack's side of the board, because he quickly scribbled the same answer on our side. He was about to put the marker down when he heard the 'plunk' of Jack sitting down, followed by some soft cheering by the people around him. Jack didn't seem to acknowledge his success from his teammates because he immediately opened up the book that laid on his desk.
      Jungkook turned his head and saw Jack, then turning the other way towards us. I gave a hopeful smile, but he turned around towards the board. I suddenly got scared he wouldn't come back to us and would stand up front with his back towards everyone, but he held his paper up and looked at it for a few seconds, then uncapping his marker and slowly writing "in.2 " and recapping the marker, putting it in the tray, and walking back to us. My smile slowly became a light chuckle when I realized Mrs. Ray was giving us the point, drawing a tally on our side of the t-table of points. Dean gave Jungkook a high five as the opposing team started arguing with the teacher.
"He obviously copied the answer!" someone from the other team shouted. Surprisingly, Jack wasn't arguing. When I looked over, he seemed bored of the situation. Someone on his team hit his back, causing him to look up from the book he was reading.
"Aren't you gonna defend your answer?" he asked, causing Jack to make an annoyed face. He then glanced over at our side of the room where Dean and his friends were laughing and patting Jungkook on the back.
"Does it really matter? It's just a game. Let them have the success, we're already in the lead anyway." Jack told them, looking back at his book. A few of them let out an annoyed huff while others shrugged it off, getting their next teammate ready to go up.
Yes, we were going to lose the game anyway, since we were four points behind and there was only a few minutes left, but our team was still excited about getting a point, even if it was kinda cheaty.
"Joy, you're up." I told her, Joy quickly picking up her paper and making her way up to the front with a nod. Mrs. Ray told us to settle down and sit as she read the next question, so we tried to calm down from the previous event. As Mrs. Ray scolded the opposing team for continuing to argue I heard Jungkook's soft murmur.
"Now I feel bad..." He whispered quietly, his voice muffled by the arm that covered his mouth as he laid his head on the desk.
"Don't be." A voice said from the left of us. It was Jack, magically appearing at the teacher's desk to get a tissue. He stuffed one in his pocket, then grabbing another before started walking back to his desk. "You're smart Seagull, you pull off some cool stuff."
As Jack walked away, Jungkook was speechless. At least as of the time I had come to this school, I only sensed a jealous grudge between Jungkook and Jack. Suddenly a comment of sincerity came from the latter, making Jungkook watch him as he walked back to his seat. When he finally sat down, Jungkook whispered something so quiet a drop of a feather could cover up his voice.
