"... And now do only 50 rounds of running and bring your asses back to the front.", Shadis screamed at last.
Ten rounds weren't the easiest task right now. We needed to save some energy for the manoeuvres later, which would be energy-consuming. Though we shouldn't be too slow, because Shadis kept an eye on every single soul of ours, like on a ruby-casket.
After forty rounds I observed that the breath of my mates kept getting bigger and faster and their feet started slurring.
Jean started loosing his tempo as well and I slowed down a little, because my feet couldn't keep up either.
Shadis wasn't very pleased with most of our results. He called us 'pathetic crybabies' and 'wanna-be-soldiers'.
Luckily he didn't look at us, but mocked especially the slower ones.
Afterwards Shadis sorted some of the cadets out, because he didn't think of them as "worthy".
I stood there on my spot and prayed, but he just looked at me with the usual angry face he did and walked on.
"Puh.", I sighed in relief.
Suddenly Shadis turned around and lay his eyes on me and on Jean after.
"Did somebody just think they were safe?" His expression became even more serious. Then his eyes stopped on Jean.
"You-", before Shadis could end, I interrupted.
"I'm sorry, commander, I was the one who sighed and I deeply apologise.", I bend my head down to show my respect.
The next thing I felt was a smack on the head and he walked on.
When I got up, I saw Jean's terrified expression. He was as pale as a butt-cheek.
Next we were brought to a nearby forest to test our Titan-attacks. We had only done little of this kind of training, because we had just little capacity.
Mainly we trained on the ground and hooked with the 3DMG on some weird and big devices.
Suddenly whispers everywhere.
"This must be the commander of the Survey Corps!"
"Oh my god, this is Levi!"
"Stop talking, he'll hear you!", "Shhh!", some of them whispered. I excitedly turned around to see Shadis approaching with a small, miserable-looking man.
"That's Levi?", I asked.
"I've heard so much about him.", Jean whispered kind of impressed. "The legend."
I frowned. To myself I said:
'I always imagined him to be more-'
"Tch.", Levi said and looked through our lines.
I turned around fast and concentrated on what was before me, not looking at anyone, just the distance.
Shadis came to his side and shouted: "Are you worms or soldiers?"
"Soldiers!", we responded.
I couldn't help but look to Corporal Levi. I was curious, because I had never seen anybody like him before and I'm not able to imagine him having the title of 'Humanities strongest soldier'. Honestly, I expected more.
The recruits around us were like petrified. What was wrong with them? He was a human being just like everybody else. No need to exaggerate.
I didn't notice, but I had stared at him for about two minutes. He had noticed that too and looked me in the eyes with the deadliest and meanest look I had ever seen. As if he looked right through me. I quickly steadied as I felt a shiver going down my spine.
That guy was strange.
"Who wants first?", I only heard Shadis say.
Nobody reacted, so he looked through our lines again and lay his eyes, on me, of course.
On who else?
"Let's see how you do on 3D-manoeuvring (L/N)."
I swallowed hard and felt my heart pounding fast. I was the first one, this was a test and I was being watched by probably the judgiest four or two eyes existing on this planet. What could go wrong? Or what couldn't?
I had done this only one time before and my hands were shaking.
I took one of my swords like in a fighting-stance, as my father had taught me and the other one with its blade back.
