I shift in the cushioned chair and sigh "Uh, I need to... I need to tell you something"
Every glance in the table now travels to me, cutlery stopping and expecting faces
"What baby?" my mom questions and takes a bite of her dessert
"Well... ha... this is funny..." I start laughing nervously, I glance at Peter who is looking at me with wide eyes "I am... I am... in a...."
"What? I didn't catch that" my dad says and he smashes his cake with the fork, molten chocolate spurring all over the white china and Peter gulps seeing it
"I am dating Peter" I mumble again and May turns to me holding her fork
"whoot???" she questions me with a piece of cake on her mouth
"Ok, Am I deaf or you're talking to low?" Happy asks and Peter squeezes my hand with more strength than ever
I sigh and move one finger pointing between Peter and me "I say that we are dating"
"Dating?" my dad furrows his forehead and my mom scratches her nose looking down to her dessert
"Finally!" May swallows and makes a slow clap, Peter and I turn to her and she looks at the others
"Wait, wait, wait... when you mean dating... you're referring to... man and woman... dating?" Happy's face twists while moving his hands and clasps them together
"Well, I don't think there's another meaning to that" I murmur and my mom stops eating and turns to my dad who tilts his head at us
"You're telling me that you and Parker are a couple?" he huffs and with my spare hand I take my glass and drink, I lick my dry lips and I turn to Peter and jerk my head so he starts talking
He gulps again and sighs "...y-yes... a couple and we wanted to tell you together" He avoids my dad's stare
May waves her hand jumping in her seat "That's amazing guys! I'm very happy for you... I kinda saw it coming..."
"Really? how? when?" Happy frowns and asks her, the attention turns to her
"Oh come on! signals are obvious... you didn't notice? Probably because Tannie comes more to the house but well, always so close to each other and smirking and laughing... super flirtatious" she winks at Peter and me and I turn to my mom and dad suppressing the wave of heat forming in my neck and cheeks
My dad points his finger at us "Soooo... I'm very confused here... you two help me... since when you decided to start dating? hours ago? minutes? Wait is this a delayed April's fool day thing?"
I gulp and Peter now is crushing my hand under the table "Well... officially we started dating on..."
"January 16" Peter almost screams and the eyes of everyone except ourselves widen
Happy shakes his head "January 16?! are you kidding?"
"Whoa... that explains so much!" May adds
"Look, we are very nervous ok? just know we are very happy together and try not to make this awkward and it's not a joke, dad" I explain
He raises his hands in the air and starts eyeing a very confused Happy. My eyes avert to my mom, an emotionless look.
"Yes, very happy and we are like an amazing duo together," Peter adds looking at me and the blushing begins to form in my face
"Mom... are you ok?" I slowly ask her
She licks her lips and turns to my dad and then back at us "I am... I am, and I have to say that for the first time I don't have anything bad to say about something" she pinches her nose and my dad looks at her
