clouds - j.o

"That one looks like a turtle," your girlfriend Jenna says, pointing to the fluffy cloud that was lazily drifting across the sky. "That's his shell and that's his head," she explained so you could see it too.
The two of you lie on a soft blanket, facing up at the sky next to each other. Jenna finally has a break from filming, photoshoots, and interviews. She longed to just spend time with you - nothing crazy, nothing public. Just pure, private, quality time with you.
"It's a boy turtle?" You question jokingly. In return she gives you a nudge.
"Yeah, it is actually." She grinned ear to ear looking over at you. The sun was radiant, casting a gentle warmth over everything it touches. Jenna's skin was glowing, the sunshine making her freckles more prominent.
She was ethereal without trying. She wore a spaghetti strap sundress, her hair lay naturally while a slight breeze pushed a few pieces back.
"What else do you see?" You ask while facing back up at the clouds. You weren't too curious about what she actually saw, you just wanted to continue hearing her voice.
Jenna's eyes scan the canvas of the sky, the clouds' shape morphing gently as they move. You can hear birds chirp in the distance as she silently stares up at the clouds.
After a few more seconds, Jenna exclaims. "Oh!" She props herself up on her elbow, using her other hand to point at the sky. "That one. A shark in the ocean, with.. a chef hat on?" She tilts her head, trying to make out the shape. "No. More like a fedora."
"What?" you say through laughter. You stare at the clouds, continuing to laugh while searching for the "Shark wearing a chef hat. No. More like a fedora".
After what felt like your eyes scanned the whole sky, you turned to back to Jenna. "I don't see it."
She was just staring at you, silently admiring you. Her brown doe eyes warm, her soft grin.
"I love hearing you laugh," she says quietly. There never was a shark wearing a fedora cloud - she only said it to hear you laugh. She gave you a gentle kiss on the cheek, giving you the same, uncountable butterflies as the first time.
Moments pass. The two of you lay silently, content having the company of the other. Jenna's arm was draped over your torso. The gentle breeze wafted the smell of Jenna's vanilla shea butter lotion from time to time. You could live in this heaven for eternity.
"That one," Jenna says, her voice softer and calmer than before. She sits up and points once more at the cerulean-colored sky. "It looks like someone proposing to someone else."
Your eyes follow in the direction she points, trying to make out the shapes. "I don't see it," you say, slightly confused. "It looks like a blob."
"Not that one. Keep looking, you'll see it."
After gazing through the clouds you give up and turn back to her for help finding it.
She's sitting up, holding a small black box that is opened facing towards you. Inside was placed the most gorgeous diamond ring you have ever seen. The diamonds shimmered under the glowing sunlight, reflecting the sun's rays like tiny mirrors.
It didn't take long to know what was happening. You put your palm over your mouth as it fell agape. "Jenna..." you whispered.
The brunette had a gentle grin on her face, trying to not let the nerves get to her. She pulled your hand from your mouth and held it in her sweating palm.
"Y/n," she started, speaking her words carefully. "Ever since meeting you, I couldn't imagine my future without you in it. You're the person who understands me, supports me in everything I do... There is no one else I would want to live this life with, have kids with, grow old..."
Tears welled in her vulnerable eyes. "Y/n, will you marry me?"
What felt like forever to her was milliseconds to you as you replied, your voice overwhelmed with joy as tears were streaming down your face. "Oh my God, Jenna, yes! I-I would want nothing more."
Jenna carefully takes out the delicate ring from the box and slips it onto your ring finger that is in your palms, shaking as she does so. After the ring was on, the two of you embrace, holding each other tightly.
Jenna nuzzles her face into your neck, wetting it with her tears of joy. "I love you so much," she whispers.
She leans up and presses her lips to yours, the two of you getting lost in the kiss.
Neither of you wanted this to end. But it wouldn't ever have to - this was yours forever.
