hidden in plain sight pt. 3

-

Your eyes fluttered open to the dim light filtering through the living room curtains. It was morning already. You adjusted your position, feeling an unfamiliar softness draped over you that wasn't last night.

Blinking away the remnants of your slumber, you looked around and noticed the cashmere blanket draped over you. Pulling it up a bit closer to your face you smelt the warm vanilla scent of Jenna. She must've checked on you overnight and given you the blanket.

You kept thinking of Jenna until it clicked. Jenna. Your memories from last night resurfaced, making your chest ache.

You shook your head and sighed, throwing the blanket to the side. Making your way to the bathroom, you noticed the apartment was unusually silent. Not that it was loud, but you could detect an emptiness.

The bright light from the bathroom made your eyes squint, once they adjusted you noticed a small paper folded with your name on it and a small heart.

Your stomach sunk. It was obviously Jenna's writing, you didn't want to even read it but you had to.

"I'm sorry for leaving like this. Be back later this afternoon. I love you.

xx Jenna"

You set the note back down and reached for your phone, pulling up Jenna's contact to see her location. Your heart fell when you saw the small text in your iMessage. Jens <3 stopped sharing their location with you.

Your breath caught in your throat, that very familiar unease settling in your chest. You couldn't think why she would leave and turn off her location after one of your most intense arguments. Jenna's always kept her location on with you, even during your disagreements, as a gesture of trust.

You couldn't sit in the empty apartment alone with your dreadful thoughts. You quickly got dressed and grabbed your keys. Before you walked out the door you pulled out your phone and went to Jenna's contact, giving her the same treatment and pressing "Stop Sharing Your Location."

It was 4pm, Jenna was exhausted from busy her day. But she made sure to stop at the store and buy all the ingredients to your favorite meal, risotto. She even stopped at the florist and got you a bouquet of flowers. She knows this wouldn't make you forgive her, but she had to start somewhere.

Her steps were light as she walked up the stairs to the apartment. She unlocked the door, struggling to carry all the bags on her small arms. "Baby, I'm home." She said to the vacant apartment. She set the bags down on the table and furrowed her eyebrows. "Y/n?"

She searched the apartment and saw you were gone, the only thing to prove you were there was the blanket on the couch. She pulled out her phone and saw that your location was no longer shared with her. She sighed to herself, knowing she messed up again. There was a confidential meeting and interview about Wednesday, she had to turn her location off. Now she's left wishing she shared that detail with you.

She wanted to keep her mind busy from the fact and began cooking dinner.

The sun was setting on the horizon, reminding you it's time to pack up and head back home. You spent your day at the commons park, reading one of your favorite novels. You folded up your blanket and shoved it in the tote bag along with your book.

You checked your phone before leaving. No notifications from Jenna, but you did open Instagram. A new story from Emma, a selfie of them smiling, probably from today. Jenna looked happy. Not that you don't want her to be happy, but how could she after everything that happened? Your jaw tightened at the sight of her and Emma. You threw the phone into the bag and headed home.
