The Twins made it back home greeted by their mother who was already waiting for them. She was standing in the entryway with a stern look on her face, "I trust the meeting went well" "Yes Mother" Momo and Hiro said at the same time. Lady Nanami asks them to come to her office.
Once they were in the office, They told her everything that happened.
"I see..." she said
"There one more thing Mother," Momo said as she looked at her mother in the eyes. "Lord Ayato ask for my hand in marriage"
Lady Nanami took a deep breath and then let it out slowly. "I know". The Twins froze "What you knew?" Momo and Hiro were both surprised by her comment.
"Yes, I did. I didn't want to say anything until he asked you, when Lord Ayato came to me not too long ago about burying the hatchet with our clans and a potential alliance, he brought up the marriage part he told me his clan elders had been to persuade him for some time now, he's been at age for a few years now and time is running out for him" Lady Nanami said as she looked at her two children as she continues, "The elder's told him that he needs to find a candidate or they will pick one for him"
The twins look at each other in shock before turning back to their mother. "Mother is that the main reason he wanted to make peace?" Hiro asked, still trying to process the information.
"Yes and no he does want to make things right between our clans and he needed to find a way to keep his clan strong and continue the line. He thought that marrying you would be the best solution for both." Nanami looked at her children seriously.
"Momo I want you to think about this. You don't have to give him an answer right now. Take some time, talk to each other, and think about what you both want. But know that I will support whatever decision you make. The well-being of our people and the future of our clans are in your hands now."
Both Momo and Hiro sat there, taking in their mother's words. They knew she was right; they did have some time to think about it. But they also knew that the pressure was on. Not just from Ayato and his clan, but from their people as well.
"Speaking of marriage Hiro you're going to Ritou to pick up your fiance tomorrow morning are you?"
"Yes mother, I am," Hiro replied, still deep in thought about the conversation with his mother.
"Sayuri informed me in a letter early today that she already packed" Hiro informed his mother.
Honma Sayuri is Hiro's fiance. She is the youngest of 5 children and the only daughter of the late Lady Honma Saki and the late Lord Honma Tsunayoshi. The Honma clan is one of the most powerful and influential families in the Ritou. She has been raised with the expectation of becoming a strong and independent leader in her own right, and her marriage to Hiro is seen as a strategic alliance between the Honma and Matsumoto clans. Hiro and Sayuri have known each other since they were children and have been betrothed at just a young age, while they have always been fond of each other, their relationship has deepened over time as they've grown closer.
As Hiro thought about the events of the day and his mother's words, he couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation and nervousness about seeing Sayuri tomorrow. He knew that she would be excited to see him as she was staying at his estate for a week and would attend his ceremony that was coming up.
The journey to Ritou is not that far from their estate it only takes half an hour to get there. but he also knew that they had some important decisions to make regarding their futures and the future of their clans. The weight of responsibility seemed to press down on him even more as he considered the potential consequences of their choices.
Momo, on the other hand, was still reeling from the news about Ayato and his request for her hand in marriage. She couldn't help but feel flattered and honoured that he would want to be her husband, but at the same time, she was unsure if she was ready for such a commitment. She knew that her mother expected her to think about it carefully and make the right decision, not just for herself, but for the future of their clan.
There was a knock on the door it was Hiromi "Nanami, kids Kimi and Yasuhiro are here" "OK we're coming out" Lady Nanami replied before taking a deep breath to calm herself.
"Your brother and cousin are here let go see them they must be exhausted after their long travel." Lady Nanami told her children "You two don't say anything about Lord Ayato's marriage proposal until it's official understand?"
Both Momo and Hiro nodded in understanding. They knew their mother was trying to protect them from unnecessary gossip and speculation.
