"Are you sure I look alright, Chris?" I ask straightening out the front of my old navy dress with my left hand while I hold a bundle of carnations in my right. I was wearing a dark blue and floral dress with white leggings and a pair of flats. We were standing on the steps of his childhood home with Dodger on the leash happily wagging his tail. Sudden nerves of meeting his family were appearing and I couldn't help but feel a bit of nausea at the thought.

"You look amazing! She's going to you and most defiantly those flowers. Why did we get flowers again?" I let out a small sigh. I told him multiple times at the store why I was buying flowers. It was the polite thing to do since I was inevitably crashing the plans for this week by being Chris's plus one.

"I told you, it's the polite thing to do."

"Okay, okay, but why that kind of flowers?" His question made my nerves fly up again, were they not nice enough? I've never met someone's parents before.

"I don't remember a lot about my parents but I do remember on my mom's birthday; the year they died that my dad bought her carnations. We weren't well of financially but I just remember the look on my mom's face getting them. I figured your mom might like them too." I give a shrug trying not to let tears come forward from that memory. Chris could tell it was meaningful to me and that I was a bit emotional from the memory.

I received one final reassuring smile as he knocked on the door. I heard walking and I could hear my heartbeat ringing in my ears. The door opened and I saw Lisa standing there in a dark blue blouse matched with black pants and adorably simple black shoes. She stepped out of the doorway allowing the overly excited Dodger to start pulling his leash to get in. Chris quickly stepped in and undid Dodger's leash allowing him to roam while I stepped into the house. Lisa quickly enveloped her son in a hug.

"I'm glad your home Chris." I heard his chuckle as he held his mom tightly.

"Glad to be home Ma." Lisa pulled away and looked over at me. I gave a soft smile handing the flowers to her.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am, I hope you like carnations." Without hesitation, Lisa pulled me into a hug as well.

"Now, we don't need none of that Ma'am nonsense. Call me Lisa. As for the carnations they are absolutely stunning. Let me get them in some water." After taking the flowers and walking away I finally let out a shaky breath that I had been holding. Chris grabbed my hand and we walking into the main room to see two gals sitting down; who I assumed were Carly and Shana. Scott saw us and smiled.

"There you are! I didn't think you all would end up coming!" I rolled my eyes.

"Ha! You wish!" Chris replied. It was nice watching their reactions even if they were just getting started. It was relaxed but playful in a way. I found an open seat while the two guys started bickering and soon the girls' attentions were turned to me.

"Damn Chris, you said she was beautiful but man your description didn't do her justice!" I looked down blushing a bit as I mutter a thank you. I'm not socially awkward, not normally at least. "I'm Carly by the way!"

"I'm Shana!"

"Pleasure to meet you both. I'm YN, but from what I hear Chris has already told you about me."

"Oh no, all we knew was that you were 'beautiful' and that he was always talking to you." Carly said with a smile. Shana laughed a bit before speaking.

"For a while, we all thought he was making you up." I could only imagine what it was like with Chris here when he was on vacation. The doorbell rang and I then heard Lisa.

"Foods here!" Chris and Scott were the first ones to get up almost racing to the door.

"Come on," Shana said standing up. "We should get in there before the boys eat all of the food."

The food was in the containers on the table and plates were put around the table at open seats. I follow Chris and take the seat next to him.

"So, where are my favorite niece and nephews tonight?" Chris asked while serving himself some food.

"I think you mean your only niece and nephews." Scott commented waving his fork towards Chris. I listen to the conversation while I was started getting myself some pasta and breadsticks.

"So, YN, Chris says you're an actress." Scott snorted at his mom's comment.

"She's not just an actress mom." Scott said with a smile.

"Oh, is that so?" Lisa asked.

"Yes, ma'am. I am an actress, but currently, I'm working on starting a music album."

"Please just call me Lisa." I give a nod of my head as I take a bite of the pasta. Wherever they had ordered from was absolutely amazing.

"YN is also in the process of creating her own computer program."

"Chris." I whisper quietly.

"Oh stop. There is no need to be humble about it. You're doing amazing work right now and you deserved to be recognized for it." I couldn't help but blush at the compliment. Dinner continued with many follow-up questions about the album and the program development. Carly seemed very interested in the coding and process which was nice to talk tech with her about it all.

"YN, what do you plan on doing after you wrap up the movie?" I look over at Chris. Did he tell them I was in the movie? With a small nod of the head, I knew he had mentioned I was in it which made me relax a bit. My biggest fear would be spilling Marvel secrets and losing my job.

"I'll start recording my album, I have a couple of events I will be going to in September. I'm hoping by this time next year my program will be patented and released to the public. I don't currently have any other acting projects. Although with everything coming up, I also have press for the movie."

"Seems like you will really have your hands full. Chris invited us to the premier in January. Will your parents be there?"

"Mom!" I looked down at my plate. Lisa noticed my discomfort.

"I'm sorry for bringing that up, I wasn't aware it was an uncomfortable topic."

"It's okay Lisa, you didn't know. I don't have anyone to bring with me to the premier who aren't my coworkers. But in a way; they are my family now. It all works out." The table grew quiet with a slight discomfort. "Chris tells me that you work with kids at one of the local theaters?"

"Yeah, Shana and I work to teach kids dance and some small amounts of acting for plays."

"Is that how Chris learned how to tap dance?" I asked with a smile. Scott started laughing.

"Man, I forgot you could tap dance!" Thankfully with the change of direction, the rest of the dinner went without any more awkward moments.

The night came to an end and we got Dodger back on his leash as we said goodbye to everyone. Shana, Carly and Scott all exchanged numbers with me. We still planned on meeting on Thursday night for the Fourth of July. Lisa walked us to the door making sure to give Chris a tight hug before turning to me.

"Thank you again for the flowers and I'm really sorry about me making you uncomfortable at Dinner." I give her a hug as I speak.

"I'm glad you like them. Don't worry about dinner. I completely understand. Have a great evening, Lisa."

"You too my dear. Take good care of this one Chris."

"I will Ma, see you Thursday." With that Chris and I walked out with Dodger quickly pulling on the leash as he walked down the stairs trying to catch every scent he can as we make our way to the car.
