dream had slept best then and there, with his favorite person pulled into his chest, enough so the beating of their hearts began to sync. after this entire year of stress and worry, the times they got to spend together cherishing the other's company felt necessary. he had hardly been awake, only just now knowing he wasn't exactly sleeping anymore. he avoided opening his eyes, not wanting to run the risk of having the warmth pulled close to himself taken away prematurely.

he tightened his hold around the brunette's waist to fight the force that was trying to break his grip until he felt the softness of a hand on his face. a thumb gently ran against the skin of his cheek, mirroring the same action he had performed so many times before. a tired smile danced on his lips, debating with himself if it was time to wake up yet.

"dream," his voice was quiet in the tired morning air of the room, still cautious about his volume despite his knowledge that the other was on the brink of consciousness. "you have to let me go." his words held no ill intent, but just the thought of letting him go when they could instead turn back around and drift back off to sleep sounded unfavorable. the blonde dropped his head to rest on the brunette's shoulder, expressing his strong opinion on the idea with a heavy sigh and a noise of disapproval. "it is still pretty early..."

the brunette had hesitated, knowing if the blonde got any confirmation that he was allowed to sleep in he was going to take it. before he could even fully agree to fall back asleep the blonde shuffled against him, resting his head directly over the brunette's heart, the hand on his cheek traveling to the nape of his neck, halfheartedly carding fingers through the overgrown hair that laid there, slick with light sweat, and in desperate need of a wash.

george took his half asleep half awake state as an excuse to watch the other with the same intimacy he had caught the other inspecting him with so many times before. normally he was confused as to what dream had gotten out of just staring, but now as he memorized the curvature of the sleep-ridden grin that stayed plastered on the blonde's face he figured he understood just a smidge more. it had been a while since he had gotten a good close-up look at the other, so every aspect of his complexion played into the overly familiar fluttering feeling that the brunette no longer tried to push away and instead now welcomed.

they stayed like that, in the comfort of the other's hold until the blonde could no longer pretend to be sleeping. he finally peered past his lashes only to encounter his favorite picture of all. pouty pink lips, inquisitive dark eyes, unruly feathered hair, all traits he'd say made the other, if even possible, more perfect.

"good morning." george didn't seem to mind the blonde staring, assuming he had still been processing the conversion from unconscious to conscious. they blinked at each other for a second, almost like they were convincing themselves they were real.

dream nibbled on his lip, turning from the gaze of the brunette to push aside the first thought in his head. "good morning to you too."

their eyes connected again, and the blonde's teasing personality seemed to wake with it.

"how did you sleep?"

george wasn't sure how to answer, retracting his hand from the nape of the blonde's neck, to hide his face in the hood of the stolen sweatshirt.

"hey!"

and though they couldn't see the other, the smile's on their face never failed to sync.

dream freed his arms from underneath the brunette, scaling his torso until the only thing between them was the fabric of his hoodie.

"hey," he repeated, trying to come off as non-threatening so george would lower his defenses.

slowly his head peeked past the hem of the collar, meeting sparkling eyes that always seemed to shine brightest in the morning.

"hey," he answered, revealing the entirety of his face to someone he knew he could trust with his entire life.

dream didn't wait to answer, only diving in to press a good morning kiss to the already present blush on the tip of the brunette's nose. when they separated, the shade of pink on george's face only grew deeper, while his eyes flew open with shock. with his hands now admiring the warmth that was emanating off his face, he playfully glared at the other. "you are such a sneak."

dream shook his head with a fond smile. "not me."

"yes, you."

george's hands moved from his own nose to the sides of the blonde's face before either of them could see, and with this power he had with the blonde's head in his hands, george pulled them together so their lips met in a morning kiss that surprised both parties.

they blinked at each other, and it was then that the brunette got to witness the most flushed the blonde had ever gotten before. instinctively he flopped into the brunette's chest, hiding his face and redirecting his hankering to get up and continue by gripping onto the fabric in front of them. george couldn't help the proud feeling that arose, but it was in no way strong enough to surpass the tenderness that he felt practically all over.

the fluttering in his soul only magnified, delighted to know they both were knocked unresponsive from the slight contact they received from just a sweet innocent kiss.

george could feel the thumping of the blonde's heart against his own, competing with the speed of the blood coursing through his lips. he felt electric, and his hands returned to the blonde's head, wanting to be in contact with the other longer.

dream lifted his head, grinning at the other with a smile that he couldn't seem to tame. "well, good morning to me."
