"Let's see what's the deal with the river," I declared while looking down at the river that was flowing down in the valley. If one listened carefully then the sound of the river water could be lightly heard above the low whistling of the northern air.

All of a sudden everything seemed to have turned quiet while I listened to the sound of water. This bewildered me slightly before I looked over my shoulder to see my wolves looking at me with a combination of horror and confusion.

"What's the matter?" I asked them. They had been chatting away a few moments ago but now, everyone was quiet.

"Are we going down to the river?" One of the wolves dared to ask.

"Of course, we are," I told him and another moment of silence followed.

"But we were told to stay away-"

"You've been working under me for more than a couple of weeks. You should have found it out by now that I don't take the Emperor seriously," I told them. Some of them swallowed, some nodded at me nervously.

"We're going down and we will move alongside the river. It would be easier for us,"

"What if we meet some drakonians there?"

"We'll say hello to them then. Let's go," I told them before loosening the rope to lower myself by a few feet. The wolves were hesitant at first but they followed me nonetheless. It took us some time to get all the way down to the base of the mountain but we finally reached there by the time sun was blazing right above our heads. I was the first to land on the base.

I couldn't help but instantly turn to the sound of water as soon as my feet touched the ground. The sound of the water was much louder here and one cannot ignore it here.

I stood in my place and gazed at the river flowing in the distance. The river was much younger here and hence its currents were much stronger. So strong that if anyone fell in them then they'd be dead instantly. Though I had a feeling this wasn't the reason why Ezekiel had warned us not to go anywhere near the river or touch its water.

There must have been something else to the river that he hadn't tell us about. Though what could it be?

Was it that the river was cursed? I don't remember any kind of curse or specialty of the river being mentioned in the book that I read about the frozen valleys before coming here. I'd have known otherwise.

"Our path looks empty," A wolf informed me after they were done surveying the surroundings, "But we should keep moving because we found some footsteps coming this way from the north. Some people seemed to be here a few moments ago,"

"Alright," I mumbled with my eyes still stuck to the river, "Let's go North," I commanded and started walking towards the north but I couldn't help but glance at the river again and again. There was something special about the water of the river and I really couldn't put a finger on it yet.
