2022, May 22 - Jimin (Going Home After The Beach)

[Places: Seaside dorm / reserved lodge, streets]

"We should go too." That's what Hoseok hyung said.

I turned my head, looking past the door of our lodging. The table, chairs, pots, and dishes were scattered all over the place.

"Jimin, come on."

I closed the door hurriedly.

They were way ahead of me. Yoongi hyung and Hoseok hyung took the lead, with Jungkook following closely behind them. There were seven of us when we first came, and now, only four were left.

I looked up as we passed the observatory. There was no light on the beach after the sunset. The observatory and sea withdrew into the darkness, and nothing was visible. There was only the roar of lapping waves.

I realized that this was the place. The place we visited when we first came to the sea together. The rock, which was said to make dreams come true. We cried out at the top of our lungs on this same spot where the rock had been blown to bits to make way for a new resort.

"Jungkook-ah, wasn't it somewhere around here?" I looked back, but Jungkook was already bolting ahead of the others.

Hoseok hyung called after him, but he didn't seem to hear. It occurred to me then. Jungkook is also moving forward along his own path. Jungkook had always been behind the others. He had tagged along and stopped when the others stopped. I was just the same.

I looked in every direction at an intersection. I had to turn left to get to the train station or turn right to take the bus home. I had to go back home someday. I couldn't avoid it forever. I had to confess my lies and tell the truth to my parents. Even if they weren't willing to hear them. I had to start fastening the first button at some point.

I saw Yoongi hyung step into the road on the left.

"Jimin-ah, hurry up." Hoseok hyung turned his head towards me.

"Hyung, I'm going home now."

With a puzzled look, he asked, "Home?"

I nodded. Then, I turned right.

Everything happened all at once. Seokjin hyung came down and left just like that. Hoseok hyung asked what had happened, but he wouldn't say a word. We couldn't stay at the reserved lodge by the beach because the reservation was under Seokjin hyung's name. But that wasn't important. We would have decided to go back even if that hadn't happened.

No one said it, but we all started heading back to the station. I was walking behind everyone. It had been only a couple of days since I ran away from the hospital. I felt awkward around everyone except for Hoseok hyung.

I looked at Taehyung, who was walking next to me. I called his name but he didn't hear me. "Are you okay?" I asked him again.

Taehyung looked up and started walking faster. I didn't know what else to do but to work with him.

Taehyung called Namjoon hyung. "I have a favor to ask."

Namjoon hyung stopped and said, "What?" His face looked strangely distorted.

Taehyung went closer to him.

But Namjoon hyung suddenly turned around and started walking in big strides. Obviously he hadn't heard Taehyung or he didn't want to hear what he had to say.

It was a flat refusal.

Taehyung just stood there watching him. And slowly he lowered his head.
