CHAPTER 29- Pub September 12, 2019

“Help,” I tried to cry, but it barely came out. Tears formed in my eyes. It hurt. The fear, the memories of pain. And right after I thought I was safe.

I covered my eyes, trying again to breath.

“Hey, Sujin, breath, please. You sound like you’re dying and it scares me.”

“My father,” I finally said, putting a hand to my right on the ground to lean on. I could barely see Yoongi, and his voice was getting farther.

Was he leaving me?

“What? There’s no one there, Sujin, I promise.”

He’s walking up the driveway.

I cried, tears falling. I couldn’t get away fast enough.

“He’s right there-”

“Sujin, I know that you might think you’re seeing something, but I promise, you’re not. You just think-”

He’s right behind Yoongi.

“I know what’s happening, I know it sounds cliche, but please, close your eyes, and take one breath, as big as you can.”

He is so close, he could touch you. Closing your eyes can’t hurt.

Maybe, if you close your eyes, you’ll disappear and he’ll leave.

“Sujin?” Yoongi asked again.

Tears were slipping down my cheeks, but my breathing was slowly getting steadier.

If he’s going to hurt you, Yoongi will be here after all.

“Now, Sujin, if you can, find one object, and focus on it. Notice every small thing about it and don’t think about anything else. Can you open your eyes?”

I shook my head no.

He hasn’t attacked you yet, maybe it’s working- keep your eyes closed.

“Alright, that’s alright, stay here, take breaths. Better ones, slower ones, please.”

I didn’t respond. I just shut my eyes- they were the only things keeping me alive.

I heard footsteps patter.

He’s coming closer. Maybe you can’t hide anymore.

More footsteps.

“Sujin.” Someone grabbed me, and I screamed, using the last bit on breath I had left.

It’s over. He’s here.

He’s got you.

He’s going to hurt you.

“Hey, it’s just me! It’s Namjoon!” the voice called.

Someone else held my small, cold hands in theirs.

“I’m here too.” It was Jin.

I let out a breath.

“Let’s go inside,” Namjoon said, rubbing my shoulder. My eyes stayed shut, as tight as I possibly could hold them.

“Please, open your eyes,” Jin requested.

I stayed still, letting my breaths fall into a pattern. I felt a tear roll off my chin and fall into my lap.

Then, I felt arms wrap around me. Jin engulfed me in a hug.

I was safe.

I opened my eyes, slowly. There was nothing but a concerned Yoongi behind Jin, and Namjoon was to my left.
