Sage introduced me to her family. I recognized RJ from school.

"I hope you're hungry," Liz said.

"Sure." I shrugged.

"Okay, everyone. Let's eat!" Drew said.

Everyone grabbed a plate and dished spaghetti onto their plates. Sage and I found a seat at the table.

"How's school treating you?" Ryder asked me.

"It's interesting." I took a bite of noodles.

"You seem squirrelly," Matt said.

I swallowed my food.

"Matthew, don't scare the boy," Scarlett said.

"Scar, I'm not scaring the boy. I'm pointing out a fact."

"Ignore my husband. He distrusts everyone."

"Excuse you?"

"Scarlett's right, Matt," RJ said.

"I can still beat your ass."

"I'd like to see you try."

"Will you knock it off? We have company," Liz said.

"Who cares? We always have company. Someone's always trying to kill us," Matt said.

Liz rolled her eyes.

"Ryan, don't threaten your brother," Emma said.

Everyone looked at RJ.

"Babe, did you forget about calling me Ryan in front of everyone?"

"No, but it's your name."

RJ rolled his eyes.

"Damn, Mom handed Dad his ass." Evan chuckled.

"Watch it," RJ said.

I listened to Sage's family talk while I ate my spaghetti. I thought my brothers and I were bad. We had nothing on her family.

"So, do you always have dinner together?" I asked.

Everyone stopped eating and looked at me.

"I have four brothers."

"Wait. There's five of you?" Matt asked me.

"Yeah. Why?"

"You're not a quint, are you?"

"No."

Matt released a breath.

"My grammy is a quint."

Everyone stopped and stared at me.

"Did you say your grandmother is a quint?" Scarlett's asked me.

"Yeah. Grammy has three sisters and a brother. Why?"

Matt leaned over the table. "Because quints are fucking nuts."

Scarlett elbowed Matt. "Don't listen to my idiot husband. They're not crazy." She rolled her eyes.

"Excuse me, but your brothers are crazy. They wouldn't let me eat when I met them."

"And they were wrong."

"Angelo was an asshole to me."

"Yeah, but Angelo is an asshole to everyone."

"Not me," Emma said.

"Because he married your sister," RJ said.

"Well, Leslie married Xavier. What's your point?"

"We like to keep it in the family," Ryder said.
